PSP GPS receiver now out in Japan |
Ó
The GPS receiver attachment for the Sony PSP is now out and about in Japan. Guess Japanese PSP owners won't be getting lost any time soon now.
Anyway. The PSP's GPS accessory isn't just for navigating. It can also be used with some new PSP titles. Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops is one example. In the game, players can connect the GPS receiver peripheral to the PSP and recruit soldiers depending on their current location in the real world.
You can also use the GPS receiver in Hot Shots Golf to get all the data you need on a real Japanese golf course like how far your are from the hole. Another game that will be using the GPS receiver is Homestar: 21st Century Navigator, which uses the GPS to get night sky data.
Yeah, maybe it's just a gimmick, but at least it adds another dimension to PSP gaming, right? Don't hesitate to let us know what you think by leaving a comment below. Oh, and if you're looking to score one of these babies, you can grab 'em through Play-Asia for US$ 59.99.

pwnd first! gotta have this sweeeet item, hope eu wont have to wait long for this...
You suck, moron. ; ) Also, a GPS is probably the last thing my PSP needs.
Please come to North America GPS receiver !! I hope Sony does some market researching because I can tell you that I would be the first in line to get this thing. It's gotta come to America, come on!
this was already posted on qj.net http://pspupdates.qj.net/ PSP-s-GPS-Receiver-is-on-Play-Asia/pg/49/aid/75364
hey jin i think you and your psp need some ass-kicking
i want this. it needs to get to NA real soon
Who gives a flying f**k if you posted first? If this hasn't even made it to the US then you better believe it's gonna be a long f**king time before this makes the EU...
Does it come with its own mapping program? and can we use map this with this gps receiver?
yeah, i might consider importing one if it worked with map this
it may come next year, cuz i think it will be in the next update of that psp.
I personally welcome our new first post overlord.
u can buy it as a bundle with maplus jap version but little good will it do you if you are in the states or eu. i doubt it will work with map this until the dev gets one himself and figures out a way. hopefully soon.
has anyone downloaded maps with the included tool? to get a distance of about 50 miles the map takes forever to download and a file size of 50+ megs. image a map of the entire united states (not possible with mapthis by the way) but that ***** would be like 2gb at least.
please marry me you pimpled face piece of ####
I bought it yesterday in Japan. It doesn't come with anything except a little plastic carrying case. I tried it with MGS and got a good Elite Enginneer right in my house. I went to get a second one but it is very difficult to follow the road and I had to travel far.
only if you promise to pwn
I just picked it up tonight and I tried it with Map This. I did not get it to work. It just acted like I was traveling in New York (I'm in L.A.) at a rate of 20-40 MPH. Weird. Deniska needs to update Map This and also make it easier to operate. Deniska should also try to add some turn-by-turn/voice navigation with mp3's playing in background.
tHIS WILL BECOME MORE USFULL IN TIME AFTER GENERAL RELEASE CODERS WILL GET THERE HANDS ON ONE AND BEFOR YOU NO IT TOMTOM WILL BE PORTED TO THE PSP SO I THINK YOU COULD SEE THE BIGGER PICTURE IE NICE BIG CLEAR REAL TIME MAPS WITH VOICE NAVIGATION HAS A LOT MORE USE TO THE HOMEBREW SCENE THAN THE AVERAGE PSP OWNER
Does anyone have any idea for a U.S. release date... despite everyone talking about this being a gimmick or whatever, there are still a ton of people that would love to buy this... For the millions of people that own a PSP already... paying 60 bucks for a GPS receiver is much better than paying close to another 300-400 for something like TomTom.. ... Metal Gear Solid-P.O. is already out.. and they need to release this thing in the states soon if they want push sales for this with MGSPO.. as well as before the Holiday Season, however it seems they wont make it before then because they havent even set a release date... this is lame... RELEASE IT IN THE US Already!
You should stick up your ass a GPS, moron yourself.
