PSP gearing up for serious gaming: GPS receiver and PSP Camera info revealed |
Ó

To further cement the current status of PSP as the best gaming handheld currently out in the market hardware-wise, a SCEJ press event on Tokyo revealed more juicy info on the much-awaited GPS receiver and PSP Camera, two pieces of hardware that can further boost PSP's image as a multi-media device molded into a single portable machine.
Barely two days ago, we've made a sighting of Rosswell proportions; ok, I'm exaggerating. But to say that I'm just excited with this feature is such an understatement. We have now more images of the much-talked about PSP Camera, and if the suppositions of Chris C. triggered a lot of ideas from you, well I'm pretty sure the details we have, no matter how small, will put debates on its capabilities to rest - at least some of it.
The event showcased a working PSP camera. Every visitor was able to have a good idea of its power as they ogle at their own images on the displayed handheld (hope those glowing eyes are for the PSP, not for their narcissistic selves). Judging from the looks of it, I think it would be safe to assume that it would have higher quality than most of today's camera-equipped cellphones. The camera can also be turned horizontally to take images either front or back. The fixing of the camera is the same with the previously released PSP USB microphone.
The GPS receiver was also displayed for public viewing, although it wasn't actually shown functioning. Sony however signified plans of incorporating the add-on to improve portable gaming. But it was strike two for us as they held on to the details of this. The upcoming Tokyo Game Show should give us a better idea of how this device could enhance our PSP gaming experience.
Aside from the two add-ons, the affair also featured "Everyone's Map" from Zenrin, "Talkman Euro version" from SCEJ, and a promotion gimmicks for the Loco Roco title. The PSP camera and GPS receiver is expected to hit stores on this year's Autumn.

i'm the first , you suck
on the title i wouldnt say info revealed
hi
so where was the info revealed? Did they get a picture of the GPS? No, just some pics of the camera (already seen) and some loco roco junk......
The info is that the PSP cam is a for sure now evidently, and that it can be used to watch you or turned around to take pics. Which is NEW info. UhDuh.
omg can you imagine the homebrew that people will make for a gps equiped psp, *drool* i cant wait.
I would of imagined the video capture would be in widescreen.
1. PSP doesn't have the status of "best gaming handheld" to cement it. (Not saying it's bad, it's OK, but the ajority prefer DS for games and have PSP for the multimedia stuff, so how they get best gaming handheld I'll never know).
2. How do a camera and Satellite navigation help it be a better gaming system?
I am sure it isnt inportant but can anyone translate in the right picture on the top of the psp screen?
I have a white psp do you think these accessories will work like the games do and also I got my white psp from japan , or am I going to have to order it??? From japan
dfvdvdvfdfvrrrr rrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrr
You know Roswell is spelled with 1 's' right?
I just want a usable keyboard! Such a simple accesory that would sell so well. What is Sony thinking...
How do a camera and Satellite navigation help it be a better gaming system?
right now there gameS that are capable of using gps, like you can use the gps to locate golf course around ur city etc... plus you can track other psp players using the gps.
you can use the camera to chat live via the camera with any player.
this thing is not for kids is not a toy like the DS. I saw 2 asian male playing ds on the subway and they look so immature lol meanwhile I was watching the new superman movie on my psp :)
That camera's probably gonna bomb if it doesn't have flash. And from the pictures, it probably doesn't.
ever since i got my psp i thought that instead of an actual keybboard, sony might want to use the camera for it.
all they gotta do it tilt the lense down at the screen, overlay a keyboard and viola.... a fully functonal keyboard that sense where you press by judgeing the depth of where your finger is located...
but that just my idea
~tomskag
Does the camera have a mic? And what was the megapixel count on it? 1.3 or 3?
Your an idiot he said best gaming device for hardware not games get it right.

Well, the PSP doesn't need to be best gaming handheld. But it could be the best handheld of Media EVER!! Now that's a better title suited.
What if they use the "Eye-Toy" like sensitivity and stuff on the camera? What if you point the lense down at the table or wherever your PSP is, then on the screen, it'll show the table. A virtual keyboard will show, then you'll have your fingers on it. You can then type from that virtual keyboard and viola, problem solved!
Don't you have eyes. Can't you see the AR on the cam is 4:3 and not 16:9 like the screen. It would've been 16:9 if the whole screen was filled.
yeah! dat wat chi sed!
how would you use an Eye-Toy on the psp? all you can fit on the screen is your head... enless its a fisheye cam or something like that.
hey dat wat chised#1,they censored your name...dou*****e??? dou*****e??? choudai yameru, pspupdates. baka!
i contacted sony a few months ago with the idea, and what do you know they created it. :)
