This is usefull news for some of us who had no clue about OTG USB. No more lugging laptop around to transfer movies to, from PSP.

What is the cheapest option for 20gig drive?

I believe it to be a USB host device (such in the way the Archos media players can function), it works very much like a file managing device alowing you to transfer files to and from the Memory stick.

However, you dont have direct access to the 40GB drive.

Hm... it seems to be just another usb harddrive with 'on the go' support. You still have to transfer all the data from it to the memstick first before using it, correct?

If I am then this is nothing new really.. Anyone else have another take one it?

Just to add to my first post, i have been able to verify that i was correct.

"Compliant with OTG supplement Rev.1.0 and USB specification version 2.0 for high-speed(480Mbs)

USB host and device.

Copy and save files directly from any USB Mass Storage Device without a computer.

Support USB storage devices with USB Mass Storage Device Class compliance."

Its just a mobile "host", will work with digital cameras, ect....

Is there any word on the adapter that allows USB HDDs and SD cards and such? It's been a while since we heard about that.

Well, theres a lot of people claiming to do something then abandoning it later (neoflash-took away usb support, xecutor-stopped all production on their adaptor as far as I know and they unstickied the post on it)

Besides, with the 4 gig limit theres no way to support large hard drives without some sort of parition swapping system or firmware hack.

can you play stuff from the PSP HDD?

Does it support Video iPod as a HDD, because both PSP & 5G iPod have the same video format and not the audio format.

Oi that would be so awesome! I mean if it lets you manage folders from the bank itself and then storing it to a memorystick because I wouldnt want to carry that bank around attached to my PSP. It would be a much better way to store sooo many games without taking 50 UMDs with you and playing at 333 mHz ;).

this is nothing new, i have a 80gig hard rive for my psp. I have the apacer hard drive which i bought for 60 dollars on the net and i already had the 80 gig hardrive. It does everything this application does if not better. Yes with mine you dont need the pc to transfer file and or erase from hardrive to psp and vise versa.

I'm not sure if this is dumb or not, but would it be possible to take the memory part of this out and out it into the 4 gigabyte PSP HDD?

I totally Agree. This is 100% OLD news. I have been using my Archos Gmini402 20gb(which also plays video & games) and is 1/4 the size of that huge azz thing as a host for my PSP stuff now for over 5 months now. I dont understand the purpose of this unit other than to generate $$ for this company and to take advantage of the holiday rush. This unit is simply a generic external usb HD with subpar features and tremendous size. Nothing I would ever want to lug around along with the PSP. The Gmini402, on the other hand, is smaller than a gameboy and supports USB hosting to the PSP and card readers that support MS pro duo cards as well! lol!

# Love my FotoChute...this SONY otg HDD looks big and ugly.Guest 2006-04-07 06:54
I love my Smartdisk Fotochute. It only has 20 gigs but it's exactly half the size and weight of the PSP. So it fits easily in the pocket. It's OTG enabled so I can swap files from between digital devices without a PC which includes to and from the PSP. I can take photos and then transfer them to my PSP and view them when I'm out and about. If PSP ever gets better avi. support I'll be able to do the same with my digital recorder. I also think Fotochute is the smallest and sexiest looking OTG enabled HDD out there. It only comes in 20 gig size though. I paid $178 for mine at office depot...but they can be aquired online much cheaper. I've got 2 psps tons of roms, music, photos and movies. So I'm constantly treansferring files. Since the PSP doesn't let you set up play lists I can just have preset playlist on my HDD and just transfer. I can even use it to configure another PSP to play roms without using a PC. I've got a 1 gig and 2 gig pro duo...so...I can't think of any reason why I would ever need more memory. 20 giggs is just plenty for me.
