Nyko Technologies ships the Charger Grip for the Sony PSP. The stylish, PS2-like grip includes a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery that extends the PSP play time by five hours. PSP fans can now acquire the new Nyko product from retailers nationwide.

The Charger GripÂ’s unique design emulates the popular PS2 controller feel, allowing for familiar handling while the ergonomic design reduces strain on hands, permitting a longer and more enjoyable gaming experience. Easy to carry in a backpack or handbag due to its collapsible design, the Charger Grip for PSP is tough, durable and easy to install with an original clip-on design for attachment and removal.

NykoÂ’s new accessory features a rechargeable lithium-ion battery providing players with up to five hours of additional battery life, making it perfect for long trips. The PSP recognizes the Charger Grip as an external battery source allowing the grip to transfer its power to the PSP, recharging the unit. The Charger GripÂ’s power is always used first, before the PSPÂ’s, so users can enjoy extended videogame/movie sessions.

"The most important things about handheld gaming are portability, comfort and battery life. This product addresses all three," said Susan Corben, vice president of marketing, Nyko Technologies. "The new Charger Grip allows customers to play longer and more comfortably without detracting from the portability of the PSP."

The Charger Grip for PSP features:

  • Ergonomic grip design reduces strain on hands, emulates PS2Â’s popular controller
    style
  • Built-in lithium-ion battery adds an addition five hours to the PSPÂ’s battery, allowing players to enjoy games for longer periods of time without having to recharge the PSP
  • Simple clip-on design allows for easy attachment and removal – lightweight device is collapsible making it portable and easy to transport like the PSP
  • Compatible with the existing PSP AC adapter, players can charge the PSP and the Charger GripÂ’s simultaneously

NykoÂ’s Charger Grip is compatible with the standard PSP AC adapter for re-charging and is currently available for $29.99. Visit Nyko.com for a list of retailers.

# seems the same as the datel product.Guest 2006-03-20 09:25
i have the datel version *seems to be the same, except the box only promotes 4 additional hours of play.*

good product. bought it for about $20usd+tax. i always wanted grips for the psp, and didnt wanna wait for the neo-pad to finally be released.

the collapsable design is poor imo. it makes the grips feel flimsy. i used extra plastic and hot glue to keep my grips supported in the middle, and keep a stationary shape.

# Do not buy!Guest 2006-03-20 13:50
I bought this about a month back from my local Gamestop. It makes the psp alot more comfortable which is great, but it has some MAJOR problems. After about 6-10 uses, the battery began overheating to the point where you cant hold the grip anymore because it is so hot. Around 12 uses, i started to smell burning plastic. I contacted Nyko last week about it and I am sending it to them for a replacement tomorrow.

# Anyone know how big the battery is?Guest 2006-03-20 13:51
I know some places quote game time, but they really don't mean actually playing the game. Does anyone know how big the battery is in this grip? How many MAH it is? I would imagine 1800 to match the battery in the PSP.

# This is the same. . .Guest 2006-03-20 16:35
My lady friend bought me the identical one from a local popular store formerly known as the 'tronics 'outique back before christmas. It's good. I like it, but the headphone adapter with extension controller (the one with the mp3 and volume controls) just barely fits into the headphone output groove. You kind of have to force it into place and then attach the grip. Only other downside is that you cannot eject the UMD when this is in place. Overall it's great though

I bought it a couple weeks ago and i love it when i play gta! makes the analog stick so much easier to use and the extended battery is a plus deffiantly worth the 30 bucks.

I've have it for about 3 months now. It's easy on the hands.

I did have to modify it.I reinforce the middle with a 4mm tape case.I also used a small drill to make more room for the headphone adapter. It has heated up a bit from time to time, but not to the point where you smell burn plastic.

Comfort is the reason I got and it's doing it's job.

# Face ArmorGuest 2006-03-20 20:27
Will this work with the Pelican Face Armor screen protector? From the looks of it, it probably wouldn't. Just curious before I shell out the bucks, just to find out it won't work.

Thanks

# Pelican Face Armor screen protector- NO NO NO NO NO NOGuest 2006-03-21 03:51
NO OF COURSE IT WONT WORK WITH THE PELICAN SCREEN GUARD!

THAT AIMS TO DESTROY YOUR PSP!!!!!!!!1

i seriourly lost a psp to that POS. get a playgear pocket and build an external battery-(tut. was on psp-hacks.com)

pelican hates consumers and seek to destroy anything they build something for... if you want ill show you my gameboy, my gameboy sp, bro's ds, psp, xbox, and girlfriends gamecube. i didnt care about my ps2 cause that was broken before i got a pelican controller...(those things fry ports!!!!)

# full ps2/ps3 controllerGuest 2006-03-21 18:33
they should make a grip like this with L2 and R2 shoulder buttons, you could just have a cord that plugs into the USB port to make them functional, maybe even somehow fit the left and right anaolg sticks on as well, then you could use your PSP as a fully functional ps2/ps3 controller!
