New original PSP faceplates in retail

Custom faceplates are a dime a dozen for the PSP these days. But if you're like us, it's just more reassuring to invest in original parts direct from Sony rather than buying all the 3rd-party gear - much like how Harley fans hold out until they can buy originals for their vintage bikes.

Now, if you have extra cash to burn and are beginning to find your traditional black or other equally macho-colored faceplates bland, Sony has just released two more original sets. As you can see, they come in metallic silver and blue, along with the company label just to let everybody know they're the real McCoy - and it saves your warranty too.

They sell for about US $ 30 per pop, though the retailer where we found this news bit is selling for them US $ 28.50 each, with special discounts for those buying in bulk. As for the the more "tactically-minded" gamers, we recommend Konami's lineup of camouflage ware and steel-plated cases.

errrr

wouldn't this void the warranty if you pop open your psp to change faceplates?
by - 2007-01-25 09:27:59
I still want one

I think it does too. Even if it does I still want one :D

$$$

Why are they so expensive, it's just a piece of plastic!
by - 2007-01-25 11:27:12
What's the point?

It's only the faceplate. You still have the back of the PSP and the buttons to change.

um, its LOOKS cool!?

i was using a clear green faceplate for ahwile, then decided to get a bright yellow one.

Where can I find a flat black faceplate?

These are nice, but I REALLY would like to buy a Flat Black Asterix psp faceplate so that there are no smudges or fingerprints for when i play the dam thing, I am a neat freak like that when it comes to expensive handheld gaming, anyone know where I can buy this particular faceplate I am talking about that's not out of stock and comes with buttons possibly?

i've looked for them as well

but the flat black ones seem to be sort of rare now. i ended up settling on an XCM clear faceplate for the time being.

.

Let me clarify some hings here, since everybody makes mistakes. For a starter, Sony does not sell these faceplates. The images you put up are from Divineo, where they get a few consoles of that colour and rip them into pieces to sell them seperatly. As you can see, they also sell other internal parts of the PSP. That is where thay come from. So Sony has not released these faceplates like the article says, it is Divineo who unpieced the consoles and sells the faceplates apart. About the warranty. The moment you take out a screw form your PSP, you have already voided the warranty. Maybe the article says that the warranty does not support third party products and only Sony original ones, but as I said, Sony is not selling these faceplates officialy. So yes, the moment you open your PSP and change the faceplate, even if the faceplates is an original one that comes from another PSP, your still voiding the warranty and Sony will not cover it anymore. And just to leave a personal opinion. I think that a blue, silver o whatever colour you change on the PSP will look so ugly with the black buttons. That means having to buy thir party buttons aswell... Anyway, let's hope you check your facts and change the article, because many people are gonna get confused. Unless you recieve something from Divineo for helping them sell more. Best Regards.

huh?

how in the world do you save your warranty by buying an original sony faceplate if installing an aftermarket faceplate voids the warranty.

duh

decalgirl.com has flat black faceplates... I know this because i ordered one with red buttons and got it the saturday before christmas. The time between ordering and sending is kinda long tho.

Should've waited

My PSP screen cracked >_> I bought a replacement OEM from a site, I got the black replacement(only one available)... I wanted an OEM blue one! Oh well, when this one gets ruined I'll buy this blue one, as it's awesome.
by - 2007-01-25 14:08:45
Mistake

I meant to say FACEPLATE cracked not the LCD.
by - 2007-01-25 14:20:22
white with logo

is there a place that sells the back with logo
by - 2007-01-25 17:04:46
eBay

eBay always seems to have nice face plates and button replacements. That's where I got mine in the Original Black color and it looks pimp. Supposedly it was an Original. It looked Original to me so I'm satisfied with what I got. My PSP was about 1 and a half years old so it had A LOT of scrathces. Even around the edges of the buttons and control pad there was a lot of wear as if dirt particles in my fingers scratched the area from so much button pressing.

if you look closely at the blue one the reflection carries on to the screen so yes there is a plastic screen in it.
