There was a new PSP accessory released at Divineo yesterday. It has been named the NEO-PSP Pad 8 in 1 inc. 4GB Microdrive.

Quite the nifty little addition really, with the price of one. It adds to the PSP functionality in three different categories, Memory, Battery, and Ergonomics (how it is held/comfort of playing). For memory it allows the use of more than just the standard Memory Stick Duo cards. It allows the use of MMC, CF, and MicroDrive cards as well. It supports a total of 4 gigs of memory.

The NEO-PSP Pad finally allows the use of normal AA batteries to power your PSP. It also has a built in charger for your Ni batteries. You can do this with many different DC charging devices, including USB. The NEO-PSP Pad protects your PSP with anti-shock protection, and it converts your PSP into a more PS2 Dual Shock controller feel. The major downfall of this incredibly versatile accessory is that it is $174.99. You can purchase it at Divineo through the link below.

Not for that money *shakes head*

» lol

lol wow, that would be awesome.

the only problem, is the probable weight.

and also, how could you have so many memory sticks, if all the psp's directorys need to be located on one?

by Anonymous Coward - 2006-04-11 09:46
» Too much.

They should make a "lite" version that just deals with ergonomics. Holding the PSP gets pretty awkward for me after a while.

by Anonymous Coward - 2006-04-11 10:01
» If...

If they threw in a 2 Gig card I'd buy it for that price. Otherwise I could just go out and get a charge cable and a memory stick Maybe even a broken controller and velcro my PSP to it...LOL

by Anonymous Coward - 2006-04-11 10:05
» Way to much

This product looks cool, but the price is way too steep, cant they sell it for $50 or something cheaper, lol

by OiD - 2006-04-11 10:05
» umm

it says it includes the 4GB microdrive, damn the prices have droped for them lol

by Anonymous Coward - 2006-04-11 10:09
» eww

it sure is UGLY!!!

by Anonymous Coward - 2006-04-11 10:10
» @ 4...

They include a 4GB Microdrive. RTA before posting. Anyway, seeing how pirated the MS Duos are (and the high price for real ones), maybe this is our best bet. But after hearing complaints about similar products from Datel, I don't know. And don't let me start about bulkiness...

I wish some one would just make handel grips like that with no extra crap for like $10. I don't care about extra features

» holy stupid marketing batman...

that price is bad marketing right there i dont care what it includes... for another 25 bucks you can get a second psp...

by comedy - 2006-04-11 11:09
» and then...

there's something you can fit onto that which makes your psp as large as a n64 controller, and then you can put that inside another one which makes it the size of an xbox controller... this means you can have a million gigabytes storage, it has it's own cold fusion reactor, an espresso machine and weighs over 30tonnes.

that's my take on this device, what's the point in making it so very bulky? 8 card readers in 1 ?! who has 8 different flash cards?

silly silly, as they say, just buy a damn usb lead

by gamerX09 - 2006-04-11 11:10
» ouch

Looks like something worth buying, but at that price, Ill wait a while.

by Anonymous Coward - 2006-04-11 11:24
» Cost

It'd be cheaper and more convenient to wait for a 4GB Duo, a 2GB costs $100 nowadays. It's supposed to be a portable system, not a tank

by Zarifus - 2006-04-11 11:42
»

#14: It's 4 card readers. FOUR! The 8 in 1 part doesn't just refer to the card reader functions. RTA.

Anyways... way to expensive for me... >_>

by comedy - 2006-04-11 12:27
» yeah rta

you may not have noticed but i was exaggerating... i have a '15 in 1 card reader which actually has only 4 slots. there's no point in just picking a tiny hole in someone's post. i mean there are enough grammar and spelling mistakes which you can point out if you're that much of a retard.

by cory1492 - 2006-04-11 14:07
» ...

Not saying its the greatest device (although would like the handgrips), but if you have large SD or MMC cards laying around already...

The last time I looked into buying a 4GB microdrive (2 weeks ago) the best price I could get was $184USD for the same brand drive - so even if you only want to use it to toss a different microdrive into your xx media player that uses a microdrive it is a decent price.

by Anonymous Coward - 2006-04-11 14:42
» #18 is retarded

Don't forget to capitalize those I's "comedy." An error in reasoning is an error in reasoning, #17 is right.

by Anonymous Coward - 2006-04-11 15:16
» chinsey?

The concept of this device is a decent one...supporting different types of memory sticks would be worth gettin an "add-on" to the regular psp body. However for the price, and what looks like awful quality, I can barely see this striking much of a profit.

$175 is a bloody good price considering what you're getting. ffs that datel hdd was about the same price, this has far more functionality.

and how does it look ugly? you do realise the batteries will be covered right? and that the cards will actually be inside the unit so it'll look like a psx/ps2 controller.

warning, the microdrive that came with my 2in1 *****ing DIED, and I was CAREFUL WITH IT. Do not support these idiots

» Math, anyone?

The 4gig microdrive retails for $69 (thank you seagate), so you just have to ask yourself: would I pay $106 for a PSP memory card adapter?

uh, no.

by Zarifus - 2006-04-11 18:21
» Construction, anyone?

$69 for a microdrive... but would it work with a PSP? Thats the important part.

The wood in my desk ain't work much (thank you forest), so you just have to ask yourself: would I pay $100 for a bunch of steel nails?

uh, no.

by Anonymous Coward - 2006-04-11 18:30
» agree with 26

yea man i'd have to agree. i guarantee a 4 gb duo's initial price would be that much or more.

And for people complaining about bulkiness, if you find that bulky, it's ridiculous that you don't complain about the size of console controllers. Besides, if you're into grips, the point is to make the thing bulkier so it's easier to hold and so you don't have to scrunch your thumbs back to hit the left d pad button and the circle button. Otherwise, just get another memory stick duo.

by Anonymous Coward - 2006-04-11 18:34
» yea right

dude a microdrive selling at $69 has "defect" and "2 month life span" written all over it

by Anonymous Coward - 2006-04-11 18:41
» which one of these would u buy?

would u spend about $200 on a 1 gig memory card or would u get the 4 gig microdrive for $174.99? this is a hella good deal. sony is giving in to our demands. they r giving us what we want for a really good price. sure this looks ugly but it's sure worth it. this is probably for the white psp's they r probably going to make another 1 in black for the black psp's so the color could blend in with our psp's. just remember this.

don't give in to what u don't want

for all u people that don't like this and think it's worthless don't *****en buy it then

1 year warranty

OEMs have been paying these prices for a long time now, but Hitachi kept the retail version in the $200-$400 range so they could fleece the high end digital photographer community. Seagate chose to enter the market at their standard margins and cut hitachi off at the knees.

Surely you didn't think that $200 of the $250 cost of an ipod mini went to Hitachi?

BTW, Lik-Sang had just the reader (grip portion) listed for preorder untill recently for $99, so you could actually have saved a few bucks buying them seperately. It's no longer listed, but there are still photos and references to it on their site. I'm sure theres an interesting story in there somewhere.

by Anonymous Coward - 2006-04-12 05:14
» 1GB cards are not $200.

A 1GB card is not $200. You can go to Circuit city and get a 2GB for $100. Target sells 2GB for $160 and 1GB for $80. Newegg.com is the place to get real 2GB MS duo's for under $100. So...here's the thing...micro drives suck compared to a MS duo. The read speed is far superior using a MS pro duo.

Now I suplemented my 2 GB MS pro duo with a 20GB OTG enabled HDD. A FotoChute...which is exactly half the size and weight of a PSP. While I can't stream info to PSP I can transfer files anytime anywhere without a PC and I get optimal performance speeds because I'm putting info on a MS pro duo. I won't ever need a 4GB...or 8GB...or whatever. I'm set for memory needs.

» why *****??

what i dont get is people who dont even have a plan or want to buy it gonna ***** about it???

thats like *****ing about how crapy your neighobors chevy is mean while you jump into your tahoe and go to work

*shrugs*

i guess when people have the chance to leave comments they ***** instead of actually putting something down useful t o much thinking involved

i think its a great idea as far as a great product i cant say if its bulky or whatever havnt tried it myself price point its alright it does include a micro drive and sure its almost the price of aother psp but 2 gig sticks are average 100 so why not get two 2 gig sticks for 200 and have 4 gigs or buy that and support a couple memory sticks and a micro drive then you could fit 2 huge games on one drive and be happy that your screw sony out of profits for piracy not all will but the majority do it so you dont have to buy the games...the movies are pretty much dead so all you have left is the games lol

anyhow you people enjoy your *****ing over a product most you havnt tried and are judging by the picture and futher more the 4in 1 card read is cause some people have 1gig sd cards and what not lying around why not put them to use with movies, music or picures or whatever on your psp bottom line till you actually bought the product you have no clues about its weakness or its bulkiness

Use a freakin period or a comma or something every 3 lines...

"and how does it look ugly? you do realise the batteries will be covered right? and that the cards will actually be inside the unit so it'll look like a psx/ps2 controller."

By ugly I meant the color, and the thing looks pretty thick. I know that'll obviously look better on a PSP.

You can get a 2 GB card for $80 now. Let's do some math:

2 2 GB cards + Rechargeable handle pad + extra battery = $80 + $80 + $15 + $30 = $205. This gadget does not seem like a bad deal to me.

by Dragaine - 2006-06-07 18:36
» So you guys know...

You can actually purchase the set up in black or white, and with or without the microdrive. The prices are $99 and $149 with free shipping. There are also more pictures available at these links that give a better idea of what you're looking at.

Now that the 4GB SanDisk card is said to start selling for $239 or around their, this grip seems like a better option. I have a rechargable grip (cheap one) and love it because it makes gaming much easier on my hands. I'm old - LOL! Although they look bulky, they are actually quite comfortable.
