The CR-5300 in action - Image 1

Tipster Hitori Futari is back with more info, more pictures, and more booth babes for you to look at. He got wind of the popularity of the previous post we had about the PSP memory card adapter, so he decided to go back to the Photofast booth to, as he put it, "pump them for more information and updates." Luckily, in addition to the picture he himself took, the Photofast people actually gave him their press kit, the pictures of which are viewable below.

According to Hitori Futari, the CR-3100 and CR-5300 memory adapters are planned for mid-July, though pricing info hasn't been decided on yet. The adapters themselves are still undergoing testing and design changes, so the final look of the CR-3100 may change depending on how that goes. As for the mounted adapter, our intrepid tipster also mentions that "there's a thin umbilical cable connecting the mounted adapter with the PSP memory slot. It's not implemented on the prototype and almost not visible on the prints."

For those wondering about MagicGate compatibility, Hitori Futari also had this to say: "MagicGate works because these are just adapters. It depends only on whether the inserted SDHCs feature MagicGate or not."

Additional tech was also taken care of by Hitori Futari. He cited Photofast's largest Compact Flash Card, the Extreme Pro 333x (45MB/s), which has 32 GB of capacity, with a 64 GB version soon to be released. Photofast also has a 128 GB capacity SSD Drive, as well as a handy (though probably overkill) 80-in-1 card reader (20 MB/s).

HItori Futari's pictures, as well as the press kit shots, can be found below. We'll do our best to keep you updated on this intriguing development in the scene, so keep checking QJ for updates.

UPDATE:

Hitori Futari sent us an email to clarify some stuff about the pictures and give an update. The device shown inside the PSP in the picture above is the single-slot CR-5300 memory adapter, which is actually already on sale. There weren't any of the dual-slot CR-5400s on display, unfortunately, and those are the ones (instead of the CR-5300) he was actually referring to in the release date portion above.

Speaking of release dates, it seems a contact Hitori Futari made at the event emailed him to let him know that the CR-5400 MS Pro Dual Slot adapter will be on sale (for the Japanese market, at least) by the end of June. If you know anyone who'll be in Japan in the coming months, you may want to ask them for a favor, because the dual slot adaptor is looking like it'll be a hot commodity when it comes out.

I'll stick with that ruby red sandisc 4 gig I've had from the start. It just looks like alot to sacrafice when sony or sandisc may make an official. But many feel that there wont be anything past a 32 Gig.

Are you saying you can't run ISO's from a non-magic gate memory card?

I already have a 16 Gig Memory Stick.. if they go as high as 32 gig then it would be great.. but I don't see it getting any higher then that.

fully compatible with ISO, ive tried Crisis Core and it loads superfast and cinema has no lag at all. great products. now im drooling over those multi microSD to HDD converters. that would mean awesome fast bootup on my laptop and or desktop for the price of some cheap microsd cards. hooray, cant wait for the other gadgets to be available at my favorite computer store.

btw ive only tested the single microSD to MSDuo converter with my sandisk 4gb MicrosdHC and PSP slim 3.90m33-2/3

Of course capacity will still increase. There's a large emerging market out there for solid state camcorders, sure Sony have them mini BluRay camcorders but they can also use Memory stick.

Can't wait to get my filthy mitts on a 32gb card.

I agree that there can't be MagicGate capability from the microSDs themselves since microSDs don't have this technology.

But MagicGate has nothing to do with ISOs. It is only for DRMed content that it is needed.

I wonder if they require a special formatter, since data will have to span both cards.

Isn't she a famous TV/drama star? Heard there's sometimes famous actresses doing the booth girl thing. Prob. cause they were asked by friends to do them the favour. Most of us western visitors don't have a clue there might be some famous girls around..... ;-(

There's still hope in the galaxy little cameraman ;-)
