We spotted this over at our forums, a video showing an HDD memory drive connecting to a PSP Phat. As Askoman notes, this is a commercial unit (can be bought right off of eBay!), and not a mod. It has its own battery too.

T'was already invented. Usbhost for zee Win. Unless this ones portable, which it looks like, so yay! I'd deal with lugging around a HDD if it could store all my games, homebrew, umentionables, but mainly umentionables so I can free up space on my memory stick :D
kinda pointless. At least with a Photofast it is portable. With this... you would look stupid walking the street lugging a huge HDD. Unless you find a way to get that 160 GB smaller and more portable, I wouldn't plan on trying it.
This method has been around for over a year now. posted at other forums multiple times.
but cool i think,you can just carry around the hdd in your pocket and when you wanna play something just take it out and play or watch a movie....or get a longer usb so you dont see the hdd

Just wait for the 2 TB memory stick to come out if you need a ton of space.
what about pricing? Say a 2TB would be like 400 bucks and this is like dirt cheap? If the 2TB has better value, of course, get it, but there might be more value in this... anyway, i wouldnt but it.

This stupid ***** is about as practical as a flyscreen on a *****ing submarine. Why would you have a portable gaming device tied to something like this? Stupid *****. Seriously. Just wait a while for flash card prices to drop ffs. Surely you can live without your entire pr0n collection on the go for a little longer...
This would work well for me, because i often use my PSP in the car for mp3s... this could hold all my mp3s and just stay in the car, and i could plug in and have my whole music collection at hand, instead of constantly rearranging my mem stick...! of course carrying it around would be kinda annoying, unless you have some huge pockets :)

I read that as hinted with sarcasm. Obviously needing 2TB of space (or even 160 GB for that matter) is ridiculous in itself, perhaps even more ridiculous than the speculated price of a 2TB memory stick. Honestly, I could probably afford the 2TB stick when it eventually comes out, but filling it with data is another story!

just find even a small 60 GB hdd and jam it in the not used anymore umd drive and that would work pretty well actually.

Yeah its been done before I guess. But I dont think the guys intention is to carry it around with him everywhere he goes. Its just cool that he managed to do it I guess. I have a USB powered small pocket hard drive and a 2GB Mem stick. If I was to go to a mates house or stop over at a relatives, all Id need was my mini hard drive, charger and maybe a tv adapter perhaps ; ). Try and see ways it can be useful. I dont really play my PSP in the street or whatever. But I wouldnt use this method for playing on a train or bus etc. Maybe Aeroplanes though..
