But, um, I would have liked to have seen an adapter to use other SD cards with the PSP, not just Sony Memory Sticks.

Cost -> 30 euro shipping included
Reads all Memorysticks classic and pro, even the 4GB (the sell for around €250, that's even cheaper as the 2GB Pro Duo will be)

Yea right, that so great MS -> USB convertor. Ow yea, always fun to carry around external usb hd's with batterys, and case. *sigh*
O and thats what it is, they even confirmed it in there forum. Not a MS -> SD or a MS -> CF adaptor, no, a MS -> USB adaptor.
With all the bulk, you end up better of with a small laptop...

You probably didn't know USB sticks exist; they're pretty cheap too..
I've seen 512MB Sandisk USB sticks going for $20... God knows how much 1GB sticks cost... cheaper than MS, eh?

Overhead for a small company with one product this early in the game may be more than one would expect.
Just a side note it's only a 10 minute job to build one from scratch ;)
And as for an adapter that suports any thing else.... Not for $25 to build something like that from scratch and then produce the product.... A small company (or group of friends as this team likely is) would go broke building enough to serve the number of people who commented on this article.
But yeah those things probably cost under a buck a piece to build would be my guess. Total profit from one I would guess 20 bucks.
And team x's nyce little USB adapter will be alot smaller than that. I can garantee. That was just a prototype. In otherwords alot of bulk that can be eleminated when fabricating boards and parts that are device specific. So expect something the size of probably a small external Flash memory to USB device that most of us have picked up at one point or another.
(for any one who couldnt guestimate for them selves about 2X3 at most)
Now to adress the functionality of the device....
They defenatly could have minimized the intrusive look of the thing. Rather than Jumper Posts they could have use some sort of trace ribbon connecter. The ms port for the MSPRO is fairly well designed but it would have been nice if they had a plastic case built that had a smooth gradiant feel to minimize the overal intrusive feel of it.... Another posible solution to the intrusive feel of it would be to release a replacement ms bay cover that had the connecter integrated into it there fore eliminating the extremely anoying PCB digging into your hand while you button mash your favorite game.
Over all a good first product release. I know some people have been in need of this for a while now so it's good that they were provided with a device that will last longer than a home made solution. But for future revesions I would hope to see them make it feel more like it's part of the psp and also clean up the look so that it isnt a noticeable modification while in public.
Enjoy those of you who purchase this device. I am going to pick one up simply because it will likely be much more reliable than my home made version which is well versed in the art of tweaking connections loose.
And yeah pspupdates here are a few bytes of data and a posible .5mb of bandwidth use for all that up to date news you deliver. I dont like you guy much but you are the most well runded and up to date site so you get my ocational ad impressions.
But jut know this is a once in a blue moon post. I just had a strong opinion on this topic so I desided that I would put it out there for people to see.
Thanks,
PyroSama
