Many in the PSP community have requested a way to run a web server to quickly download music and videos from a PC directly to the PSP. Past methods have involved some complicated server setup, but with Locura Personal Media Server it is a simple, one step procedure: install and run. Here's the key features that there personal media server offers:
  • Browse your entire video collection! Download your videos wirelessly with a simple click.
  • View your audio folders and create auto-updating streaming music feeds on the fly.
  • Browse your dynamically re-sized pictures from your favorite hot-spot or anywhere you can connect to the internet.
  • Access all your media from a standard browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer® or Firefox® (no PSP™ required!)
  • Change the look of your media pages with built-in themes or create your own!
  • If you have a background in HTML and Visual Basic, you can make more advanced page changes.
The Locura Personal Media Server will be available in April for a price of $30 for single user and $50 for an entire family licence and will require a PC running Windows 2000, 2003 or XP, other platforms may become available in the future though so here's hoping for a mac version.

It uses the PSP browser, so its not going to be on 1.5 anytime soon.

This software is only a simple PC-side server, theres no software to install/run on the PSP.

man, that is some BS. no one in their right mind would pay for that piece of crap. HFS gets the job done right. Even so, I'm sure a key generator will emerge from the depths of the hax0r elite for the noobs that want to use this junk.

Wow, 30!? You can download free webservers all over the place! I use Abyss Web Server. Free. Fast. Secure.

After you have one, Just find a good indexing script like http://autoindex.sourceforge.net! This does everything, You can comment Files. It also resizes images however you want. You can also Upload/download from it (duh) and create users (You can make it so if they are not registered, They cannot view or download). And, It's all FREE!

It's too bad, though.. I know a lot of VisualBasic. Oh wait, You can get a FREE WEBSERVER from http://planetsourcecode.com And the sourcecode is included! WOWZORSOMGLOL111

that is just downright stupid. I run hfs on my pc to allow me access to my videos, pics, etc from my psp. Coupled with feedforall so i can also use the rss channel capabilities and just stream the music i want. All the software i use is freeware.

I like the comment at the bottom of the page that states that if you use this program to listen to unlicensed MP3s, your program's license is void. That's f-in hilarious! They may as well right "You have no reason to buy this program, just warez it."

When I was at 2.0 I just upped my PSP video shorts to my website and downloaded them from the browser when I wanted. 100% free. Anyone who buys this might as well burn their money.

Yah, I tried that program too, pretty good one at that. Just have to make sure you have a password set up for it. I think that's how I got my comp all messed up :P :-S.

But yah, you shouldn't have to pay for something like this, it's just people trying to take advantage of not so informed people :P

Hello All.

I see a lot of comments asking why someone should buy this if they can set something like this up for themselves. The short answer is: THEY SHOULDN’T. The people who post here and frequent this site have more computer skills then most. Many people don’t know what a web server is let alone how to setup something like Apache or some other web server. This product is targeted to those who don’t have the talent of those here to set up something like that. It is targeted to those who want to browse their photos and video and listen to music within 15 minutes without any other action required.

And, as nice as it would be to give this away, it’s just not feasible. In order to make a product that easy to use and set up (and powerful – it is a full web server with scripting support – it does more than just PSP media), it takes time and money. If you ask the admins at this site, I’m sure they will tell you it takes more money than just a $2.99 domain name registration fee to setup a business: There are File Hosting Fees, Server Costs, Tax IDs, Sales Tax IDs, Tax Withholding fees, Lawyer Fees, Accountant Fees, Payroll Fees and the list goes on.

On top of that there have been tons of man hours put into this project (not only in programming time, but server setup, site setup, administration, meetings with lawyers, etc.) Again, this is a full multi-threaded personal web server. It is designed to allow simple snap-in add-ons tailored to many things: one of which is PSP-Media. It has Visual Basic scripting support, virtual directory support, dynamic image resizing, built-in folder-browsing, audio streaming, etc.

I understand how many here still would rather implement their own solution. Most people here are sharp enough to do that. But for all the posts we see in the playstation, gamespot, and other forums asking “how?” and “what?” and “huh?” we figured we can help some people out.

If you don’t need our product, don’t buy it. We don’t want to take money from anyone without giving them something of value in return. Please feel free to use the free version; it does include the web server, scripting support, virtual directories, and photo browsing. We’re happy for you to use it for free. For those out there that need our product, we are glad to offer them a robust solution at a minimal charge. That way we can keep offering other products in the future.

And if you do use our product, even the free version, and you do not fee it is a solid product that is worth using, let us know. We want to make sure this product is worth your time. We think you will be surprised at all it has to offer.

Thanks for your time,

Deadly_B

You people are losers. Are you going to go out and steal a PSP too? This piece of software is hot and I personally want to say bravo VillainousMind! I will definately purchase such a all inclusive and useful product. These other idiots who think it's so easy to make this theirselves will be downloading it too and trying to steal it, but who gives a s&%t! They lack the integrity to see a good thing when it comes along. I'm very excited about your release and will spread the word. May I suggest posting your release where it will be appreciated? Obviously the quality of users on this site has gone down.

Deadly_B,

I want to say great job, it looks like this software is really going to be sweet. I'll be telling my friends. When exactly will it be available for download? Also, how do I pay?

We are hoping to have the product available for download within a week from today. There are still several logistical hurdles, but we are on track.

When the product is available, you will simply go to the web site to pay. On payment, you will receive a product key. This will activate the extra features of the media server. The nice thing is you will be able to try it before you pay a single penny!!

We do understand that some will just try to generate keys. That is unfortunate. We feel our product offers a lot of bang for the buck; we are not trying to charge for anything unreasonable. We also are trying to give as much functionality away as we can, while still making sure we can stay in business to make more user-friendly products.

We feel $30 is very reasonable for all that you get; let's face it: most people that post here can charge $35-$60 an hour in computer consulting fees: why spend hours trying to crack a key when you could use that time consulting and spend less than an hour's wages just to buy one (And if you do know how to set up web servers and create web sites, and you AREN'T consulting on the side; you really have missed a great oppurtunity!).

We are not a soulless corporation. We will never try to rip you off. If you ever feel you did not get your money's worth from VillainousMind, we want to know!

I hope this has been helpful,

Deadly_B

Thanks for the post VillainousMind! Looking forward to the release. I'm laughing as I read some of the ignorant posts here! These people obviously have nothing better to do with their time than whine. This looks like a really well done product and I think the market is primed and ready, so best of luck to you!

Cheers!

Thanks for your comments.

I have to laugh at some of the posts too, but I also understand the frustration many people have with so many greedy corporations just trying to squeeze every last dime out of people. I think you will find once people start using the product that we are a different breed of company and our products are worth the money (and again, even if you use the free version, you are still getting a lot of functionality).

Your post made me re-read some of the responses and I want to respond to "NOT for 1.5". Actually, this should work with ANY current browser. Although I cannot state for a fact that all browsers work, I can state that this uses standard HTTP protocols and has been tested with IE, Firefox, and the PSP Browser. I do believe there is a homebrew browser out there for 1.5, and, although we have not tested it, it should work with the Locura Personal Media Server. Since the media server will be a free download, you can try it to make sure before you pay.

Thanks again,

Deadly_B

Some people just dont know what they have here. Yes, I have HFS and it works great but I can't stream audio to my PSP which VillainousMind has done and the interface looks far and beyond HFS or any other program out there. Im a network engineer/web designer but I will still be purchasing this product for sure. check it out and see for your self what it has to offer:

http://psp.villainousmind.com/products/detail.aspx?id=17290624

All you punks who say, "why would I buy it when I can just make it myself for free," well why havent you then???? All talk but no walk. Any program you guys make or attempt to make wont even close to matching up with the one VillainousMind has created so quit your im the $hit psp hacker and put complement where it is well deserved. GREAT JOB VillainousMind, keep it up. by the way today is April 24th so hopefully the download will be available sometime today. THANKS

# it's not working for me!aceface 2006-04-27 10:55
So it seems i'm one of the few who have downloaded and setup Locura. The setup was very easy but unfortunately I got an error trying to access all the content. I get an "Unauthorized request" error it mentions that my content is inaccessible. I went to the help/support page on Villianous and it's not even up yet!!! It looks like this software may have potential, but right now it's not up to speed. Deadly_B if you read this how can i get support this problem!?!?!

thanks in advance.
