Thanks go to wekilledbambi03 for enlightening us about Sony's desire to get our opinion in this new survey. The survey covers Sony's line of time shifting products, including the Location Free TV Base Station.

The PSP, PS3 and other devices that you can stream content to using a Sony Location Free Base Station are also covered in the survey. The pace proceeds based on your answers to the questions so the length of the survey will vary accordingly. There are also questions about how we use products like TIVO and how much we are willing to pay for the service. I know sometimes it all seems pointless, but the least we can do is try to tell them what we want!

It doesn't take more than five minutes to complete the survey and overall it doesn't seem to be too biased. Here is a sample of the survey questions you will find from Sony.

» Stupid Sony!

I hate the location free *****, it's way too expensive, and it's almost useless, I keep my pspvideo 9! thanks!

by Flamekebab - 2006-07-25 11:48
» Price question..

I notice in the survey that the choices of "what would you consider a reasonable price point for LF" are all higher than I'd pay..

I'd pay around £45. Maximum. I just am not THAT interested in TV!

by comedy - 2006-07-25 11:50
» it's a load of poop

i have tinkered with that damned location free, and i find it painful, but promising. it's not 'easy' to make work, like when having to register things to the base station. but it really could be a cool idea... then again, pimpstreamer is free and awesome-o

oh, if the guy who makes pimpstreamer is reading this, is it at all possible to go for live tv streaming? i have a media centre pc, and it can happily encode, but i don't know about how hard it would be to make some sort of mpeg2 page file type thing... i don't really know ,but it would be super cool.

» Nice

Its always fun doing survays.

by Mo Hat - 2006-07-25 12:20
» Pimpstreamer

Pimpstreamer bodly rapes locationfree and tivo2go, so stick to that. $0 vs $250 for location and something for tivo2go. Pimpstreamer all the way

» Tip

I submitted this tip yesterday.

by MrWho7 - 2006-07-25 13:12
» i just got a location free

on ebay for $60

by liquidtenmillion - 2006-07-25 13:23
» Location free is FANTASTIC

If you can afford it that is.

pimpstreamer does not compare. There is a difference between watching static videos on a PC hard drive and live television.

A HUGE difference.

» Uh....

GAP surveys aren't supposed to be made public acording to the regualtions of GAP content, so I'm not sure if this should be here.

by demologik - 2006-07-25 14:39
» hint?

there was a part on that survey about usingh the PS3 as a Location Free Basestation. . interesting..

by wekilledbambi03 - 2006-07-25 14:48
» gap

im pretty sure this survey was not just gap members. it only says playstation underground it never says gap. so i dont see a problem with sharing a survey available to anyone who joins the site

by The Pimp Slapper - 2006-07-25 15:44
» Maybe they will listen

They are doing this survey because NO ONE (Well, Pretty much no one) has the Locationfree Player. Who the HELL is gonna pay $200 for it? You could buy another PSP for that price! Drop the price down to $100-$150 and MAYBE we can talk.......

by MrWho7 - 2006-07-25 15:59
» look on ebay

u can get the base station for much lower than the MSRP. i got a used one for $60 and new ones are around $150

by RaiderX - 2006-07-25 18:10
» sony finally

realizes tahts nobody uses the locationfree crap! XD

by gamer - 2006-07-25 19:23
» hey

signing up for the site isn't that hard, plus is free, also you guys know about their mag? it rocks! hahaha some dude said something about ps3 as location free base?

Where's the questions about the toaster functionality. Help me out people!

by TheProfessor - 2006-07-26 02:55
» The toaster functionality wont make it until FW 4.0

Geesh everyone knows that, have you been living under a rock?

The PS3 in conjunction with the PSP will also make your bed and tuck you in at night. For 500 dollars it's a steal. Talk about value! I spent 2k on a Vegas trip last weekend (seriously)! I could have bought 4 PS3s.

Truthfully though I welcome new functionality. You never know what the next big feature will be that you can't live without. Watching live TV on a PSP when I'm on the airport or in some mofo's house who doesn't have cable might just be priceless.

by MrDaBucket - 2006-07-26 03:03
» 23

It says PSU but it's sent out to GAP members.

by lansingone - 2006-07-26 05:18
» i like the idea of LF

its just i thought it was somthing the PS3 would come with, so why bother buying one if the PS3 im going to buy does that anyway

by sad - 2006-07-26 07:10

its great if you're on the go and visit family members and it gets a little boring whe the adults are watching crap..if they have wifi, just connect up and watch wots on your tv at home..you van change channel of the cable box and control the dvd player

by chief - 2006-07-26 14:10
» bought 1 today

on ebay for $179 with shipping and handling $15, arriving on sat. i've always wanted one but the price was too much, but this was a deaL i had to take. now 1 more gadget to go along with all this tech (ps3!) cant wait.

by Shatterdome - 2006-07-26 15:41
» ...

Yeah i'm hoping everyone put as the reason to not buy a location free as "waiting to see if the ps3 will act as one"

give them a hint that it needs to be done...

by Rudi - 2006-07-26 18:45
» should have another option

I think I would buy a PSP if PS3 had locationfree. :)

Have allready preordered PS3 a long time ago. :)
