Frys.com offer - Image 1

Months back, we talked about the SanDisk 4GB memory stick being sold at Google Checkout for US$ 65. Well, sadly, a good deal doesn't last forever and checking the same website now, its price tag went up to roughly 80 bucks. So you're thinking you've missed out on the chance to buy it for a lesser price? Think again.

This time around, its Frys.com who's selling the same memory disk for a cheaper price - US$ 70 (69.99 to be really exact). The humongous 8GB Sony memory stick is already available for pre-order for roughly 300 greenbacks, but if you don't have that much money in your pockets, then the Frys offer could do for now. Let's wait and see if the Frys.com offer gets sweeter in the coming days, but for now, clicking on the read-link below will take you to the Frys site.

» Half as fast as Sony's

Just remember to consider the data throughput on these cards if you plan on copying files back and forth a lot (loading up ISOs, etc.)

The Sony MSDuo 4GB card I bought had a 20MB/sec spec, while some of the SanDisk are 10MB/sec and 15MB/sec.

I picked up the Sony 4GB from NewEgg for $105 shipped.

» Holding Out...

Personally, I'm going to hold out for the 8gb. I lived with my 32mb until the 512 hit $100, then the 2gb hit it... Sticking with that pattern, I've gotta be content with my 2gb for a few months, but I think I can survive until then.

Once 8gb drops below $150 though, we'll talk

» $$$$

You can get a 4GB Pro Duo on Ebay for $55. It is deffinately fake but I've had a fake 2GB memory stick for over a year now and it's still running strong.

I'm sure people are going to comment on the performance differences but from what I know, little as it may be, the only real difference is it takes longer to write to the stick. I believe the read times are pretty much the same.

If you are simply interested in videos and music then a fake memory stick isn't a bad option really. Also wouldn't be bad for emulators unless someone has specs on bad read times or something.

PLEASE, QJ STAFF, specify this is as usual a DAMN US-ONLY ADVERT. We non-american stinky alien still have to pay twice as expensive (in Europe at least).

» I agree

I agree. Here in South Africa it's particularly bad: I've heard 1gb's go for $20, but the cheapest I could find online was about R500 (Google says $70).

» bad idea...

I bought a fake 4gb card from ebay for $55, and it didn't even work properly. It showed 4gb worth of data free, but after 1gb was used, the card failed to recognize anything else. The card was also poorly constructed, and the read times were WAY longer than the real card. It took about 20 seconds to load a popstation game up, whereas my real card loaded it in about 2 seconds. Luckily, the seller I bought it from gave me a full refund...but in the end, its more hastle than it is worth...and if it fails...you're out of the money, period.

» WOULD THIS WORK GOOD WITH ISO/CSO's

Cuz i like to convert all my UMDs to CSO so i dont have to carry the UMDs around and i need a new memory stick since i only have a 1gig stick?

» Memory sticks

The prices on memory are dropping dramatically. I found multiple sony ultra 2 gigs for 28.xx shipped on amazon. No there not fake. Just buy 2 - 2gigs. I carry my memory sticks around all the time. You can have a ton of games, pics, and vids to carry around with you.

So you bought 12 4GB memory sticks?

That site you posted requires you to buy at least $650 worth of their stuff in order to get it at the price advertised.

I was thinking about buying a memory stick from them till I looked around their site and they have a PS3 w/ 60GB harddrive for $420 and a 360 premium for $199. That's too good to be true. Especially with PS3s being so hard to find.

Also noticed they don't have anything about stock quantity. Practically every online store has some sort of stock awareness. Whether it be right there by the product or when you add to your shopping cart.

I'd be very nervous about spending $650 at that store. Looks sort of like a pyramid scheme or a flat out scam.
