Now that the PSP Go has been unveiled, announced, and criticized, time now to direct our attention to the device usage - should we actually make the purchase, that is. For that, Sony is already preparing a few add-ons, peripherals, and accessories that will be compatible to the new handheld, and here are a few of the prototypes on display at E3.

Yes, they're still just prototypes. Pricing and availability could not be determined this early, but at least we have a little preview of what we could be getting. IGN has spotted:
  • Padded Protective Sleeves
  • Charging/Docking Cradle
  • Redesigned Charging Cable
  • Component and Composite Cables with new connector
  • First-party Protective Screen Film
Although it's too early to say, your old PSP gear may not be compatible with PSP Go, seeing as Sony has planned to release it with its own lineup of accessories. Or if we're lucky, these are just fancy new PSP Go accessories and we could still opt to use the old gear.

» Dang.

After all the accessories I bought for my 3000...looks like I have to start saving up.

I really want a Go, but Sony, you keep knocking me down :(

I agree. I have my CFW Phat + GoW 2000 still. I Love'm both. I really think I'm gonna hold out until it reaches 179.99. The No UMD drive doesn't do it for me. I hate buyin points or using my credit card for PSN, XBL or WFC. I think this is for all of the people who hate on or don't know about homebrew.

» looks slick to me...

everyone says this thing is so ugly, i think it looks pretty cool. I might get one if they get homebrew working on it. The apps and plugins you could make to make that more functional then sony will could be amazing.

» I really thought...

I really thought this is cheaper.

But it's pretty well damn expensive.

The design is a no go for me. But since, I have a phat.

It's good to upgrade to a Go, knowing that it's lighter

even compared to the slim. Oh, I'll only buy this one if

it runs homebrew so I can pirate. ARGH!!!

» the first psp

was $367.58, so umm yeah the gO is ALOT cheaper

by fearlubu - 2009-06-03 23:25
» yeah....

but at a price that matches the Wii???

i dont think thats very good......

i would say 200 MAX

think about it, its still the PSP...nothing extraordinarily new......the same price as the Wii, and $50 more expensive than the 360 (arcade of course)

Sony just needs to stop it with the overpricing......theyre probably going to have a price cut for this decently soon after launch....they just want to pick up some extra cash from the loyalists

» I agree

This is far too overpriced. Smaller screen. No UMD drive. I mean, the cost is somewhat mitigated by the reduced need for buying a separate flash card. Well, I say "reduced," but some may say it may be increased due to the dependence on it without the UMD drive being around. Guess it depends on if 16GB is enough for you.

At any rate, including built-in flash is pointless if they're going to have an expansion slot anyway that customers can use to get their own, usually cheaper, flash cards. The only use I can see for this is if they plan to start moving some apps out of the firmware and make them standalone apps that run from regular flash memory like the games, videos, etc. do. Still, this can be served just as well by customer-provided flash. Instead, they're supplying the flash and charging Apple-like over-inflated prices for it.

Also, they included bluetooth. Great. This shouldn't be a large cost adder if their PS3 remote can have it and still only cost $20-25. Elimination of the UMD drive should likely more than compensate for the added cost here.

Looks like the only hopes for making this thing cheaper are decreasing flash costs or hoping that they eventually release a model without the large, overpriced built-in flash space.

Oh, hell... I forgot the analog clock that Kaz Hirai showed on his PSP in the keynote. I guess that alone is worth the $250. /sarcasm.

» look closely..

Hey everyone..what firmware do you think the PSP Go has?

OFW 6.00? I saw the pics above the white and right black. It has the new feature of Clock and Calendar.

The screen quality look extremely good for me. Very crystal-clear.

I checked while i was there, and it was 5.50. However I also checked a 3000 that was next to it, and that had a "special" version on it (ie, i think it said something like 5.05 internal). This was on a 3000 with a weird backplate and no accessable umd or remoable battery.

On a side note, when looking at the PSPGo, it no longer has the PSP2000/3000 headphone+remot e output socket, nor a USB. Instead it has a new proprietory socket (looked a bit like an HDMI socket), and a standalone headphone socket.

» NO no no!

I don't want accesories for this. I'm not even going to by it. I mean they still haven't even released the Chotto Shot or GPS unit for the PSP in the U.S.! I want that stuff for my PSP 1000 now! Damn it Sony!

Until they add a keyboard and a touch screen, it's the PSPGoAway.

by YAMI ANUBIS X - 2009-06-04 18:37
» WRONG!

Original PSP released in USA was 250 dollars, the same price as this device.

That was the value pack.

Then came the core, which sold cheaper.

Slimmer editions came out and cost 170-200 dollars. So really you getting the original in new casing.

I should know I have the original PSP, I bought mine in USA in March 2005, when it was released for 250 dollars plus tax. It did not equal up to 300 dollars and above.

» component cables

Component cables? So it will actually have Video-Out then - earlier articles seemed to indicate otherwise.

That's cool, at least it will be roughly equivalent to a PSP-3000, just with a sliding screen - it was looking as though it would actually be a downgrade.
