Fr-psp-dwm-bigDatel, creators of the 4GB HDD for the PSP, will begin selling a new product called WiFi Max. This product comes as a relief to us gamers who do not have a wireless router, or other similar USB WiFi adapters. Another advantage is that this is specifically made to be used with the PSP, and comes with special server software Max Media Server Software just for that use.

It operates on the Wireless G standard, and will allow you to easily transfer Video, Music, Images, and Gamesaves as well. Plus it looks pretty cool. Expect to see this product go on sale in the next few days from your favorite accessory sites. Estimated price range will be around $40?50US.

I wasn't complaining about the topic, just warning people not to jump on this too quickly. I really couldn't care less though, in the end :)

my PSP runs fine on B, G and my Pre-N network. It works much faster and at a much longer range on Pre-N than any other (B/G). I think the range of your router / AP affects the range of the PSP.

A note: 802.11G is *not* the same as 802.11B, although most G routers/access points also support B. It is true, however, that B and G run on the same 2.4-2.45 GHz frequencies.

There are similar "portable wireless access points" on the market, such as those from Linksys (yech) and Apple (Airport Express - very nice, but easiest configured on a Mac instead of Apple's PC software).

The PSP has 802.11b, which runs up to 11 megabit - far faster than any connection you're likely to get at Starbucks, or the run-o'-the-mill cable modem.

HTH!

Well, I think this wifimax device is pretty useful for psp owners like myself due to the fact that I have an internet connection (cable modem) and I am not willing to fork out the extra money to purchase a wireless router. I am pretty much willing to purchase this product because there are some psp softwares available and since it is specially made for the psp, I assume most of the settings are done nicely for me and that can save me the trouble of figuring it out.

Doesn't the PSP use 802.11 B? If so, how does this use G?

802.11g operates on the same band as 802.11b, but gets higher data rates =)

this is for people who don't know what they're really buying...don't get suckered.

Get a real, full-featured brand-named router for less.

... U guys are stupid. Im not saying this has a decent price, and im also not saying router capabilities are not better. But think of all those times when u went to a place that had a internet connected computer with no wireless router. This device is freakin easy to take around with you, so where ever theres a internet connected computer u can plug it into the USB and play.

Yea, the mods for this is much crappier than a linksys router, but its portable. Cant deny that.

Still, there's better products out there. And smaller.

Funny how everyone seems to constantly bash qj yet they also seem to consistently visit as well.

This is news - they are informing us about a product that's avaliable and designed for psp. Yes, as Ricky said, it's not a great thing to get as their are real routers that are better but it's still a psp product. Even if qj was paid to put this here, which I find unlikely when pspupdates.qj.net will put up anything about psp for FREE anyway, it's still news regardless.

(also, PSPMASTA does make a small point and I might add that it has software included that is designed for the psp as well)

lol do you think you can pay extra to qj to get them to turn commenting off? it seems like whenever there's a really juicy topic bound to get flames, the poster conveniently disallows comments.
