Creative New PS2/ PS3 Controller From Splitfish

The GlideFX controller for the PS2 (a version for the PS3 is also forthcoming) is reminiscent of the Revolution controller in some ways, but apparently it is original enough to avoid lawsuits. It features a trackball on the right controller and a more traditional looking analog stick on the left half. There is a D-pad on the left half along with the normal face buttons which are all present on the right, although they are laid out in a different configuration than on normal controllers. Although this new controller sports a radical new look, there are no internal changes similar to the ones coming in the Revolution controller. Splitfish is planning to preview the new sticks at E3 and release them for the PS2 sometime afterwards. There is also a plan to release a version for the PS3 upon its release.

I really think that this is pushing it. I beleive that the idea to have two seperate controllers is cool, but I also beleive that Nintendo came up with the idea first. I am well prepared for the flaming I will receive from the Sony fanboys.

not only is this quite clearly inspired by the revolution controller but it's also lame.

who in their right mind wants a track ball?

"who in their right mind wants a track ball?"

I think the trackball is a cool idea, but my concern is if it is comfortable.

While I agree the idea's not the best, and I can't see it being comfortable, it takes quite some time to develop an idea and get a prototype working. Nintendo revealed their design months ago. This must have been in development for awhile before the revelation in order for them to have a working prototype now. And Nintendo kept their design in LOCKDOWN, so I doubt SplitFish saw the Revo design before anyone else did. Sometimes more than 1 person comes up with the same idea at the same time. Look at calculus (Newton and Liebniz). And it's not like this idea has never been done before.

Trackball is a great idea, I would love to see it on PS3 controller (it would make it great for FPSs).

The other news: Nintendo didn't invent that 2-part controller design, it was made earlier, I remember having such controller for Atari 64 XE and Amiga 500.

trackball is rubbish... the best thing for fps games is the mouse. if ps3 has usb ports - which it has - and if the games support usb mice -which they bloody ought to- then the trackball will be useless... the design sucks, rev's controller is only good cos of that motion tracker thing inside, not just for the stupid nunchuck idea.

i had a track ball on my pc, and ended up buying a laser mouse when i started playing FPS. there good for spinning around when you have someone behind you, but they suck when you want acuracy. it tends to shake so you wont be getting a lot of head shots or sniping done

The whole point behind the dual controllers is to allow more freedom with your arms and hands. As for the track ball, it maybe ok if there is a switch, when it is down, the ball can roll freely, when it is up, it puts more tension on the ball making it more stiff and better for accuracy.

Ok, this is not, i repeat, NOT the PS3 controller. This is only a redesign of the PS2 and a future PS3 redesign. If this was the final controller, it would have been revealed in May as Mr.Harrison said at the Game Develepors Conference. PS3 is the best gaming system, and it's being unleashed in the month of my birthday :)! Anyways, this is not the standard controller from Sony, if it was, you would see no cords for sure.
