Chotto Shot for the trigger-happy, now out

Chotto Shot (with case)

If you're the type to document your whole life in MySpace with pictures of you harassing your pet cat, pictures of you picking your nose, or pictures of you doing other-worldy things (hey, these kinds of pics are actually appreciated somewhere in the Interwebs), then you might look forward to this PSP accessory.

The Chotto Shot is now available from Play-Asia for approximately US $ 49.90. It even has a neat little carrying case that comes with it. With a 1.3 megapixel lens that can capture both still shots and videos, the price is pretty reasonable considering that it even comes with its own photo-editing software.

What we'd like to know now is this: can this little baby can be incorporated into your homebrews? Makes you think, doesn't it? Anyone want to take the challenge?

What firmware does it requires?

by soopergooman - 2006-11-01 07:15
» YAY! a Price!!!

I'm soo getting this so that it will be easier for me to record vcs on my other psp. lol I NEED this!

by dood - 2006-11-01 07:24
» I dont know.....

I am on 2.71 se-b' and I have not yet seen any camera options in the XMB.

I too would like to know how you use the camera and does it require the latest firmware.

How would you run homebrew on it if it does req 2.81....

Anyhow its a neat toy but how do you use it!!!!!!!

I would also like to say that 1.3 megapixels means it will never be able to ever replace a real camera which is a dissapointment. I was really hoping for 3MP+. Oh well, I guess that leaves them room to come out with yet another product later.

by pob-pnuk - 2006-11-01 07:32
» firmware

i am going to get this if you can run it on 2.71 or below

if not ill consider upgrading on reveiws

» Quick details ive heard

it is a USB camera that goes on top o the PSP. It comes with a UMD and you use the UMD to take the pics/videos. Also on the UMD, it has editing software. Pictures are saved under PSP/PHOTO and i think vidoes are put in the MP_ROOT folder encoded in mp4.

when does this come out in the UK and what about the GPS

by metalspector - 2006-11-01 07:46
» ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

1.3 megapixels? you must be kidding me right? this probably takes the most blurry pictures a camera can take. Also my cellphone has a camera which came on it FREE and it's 4 megapixels. Sony, you srewed up bigtime, noone will buy this crap.

by aky - 2006-11-01 07:49
» :/

i bet the UMD it apparently comes with requires like 2.81 or something so u probably need to update for it to work.

by . - 2006-11-01 07:56
» .

I know.

1.3 is crap when it comes to cameras.

My Cell even does 1.7, and it's old.

by Vietone - 2006-11-01 07:58
» Idiots

For one 1.3MP is plenty enough.

You rarely ever use the source pictures from those high MP cameras. Its just not necessary.

1.3MP pictures are perfect for uploading to the internet. You wont have to open them up in a editing program just to make them smaller and thus making them look like you took them from a 1.3MP camera anyways.

by Shadows1990 - 2006-11-01 08:13
» Totally True

Well, yeah, i have 1.3 MP on my 'Cell' and im happy with it. Good job Sony

by bobefresh - 2006-11-01 08:13
» ^^^^^^^

yep hes right!!! much easier for myspacers

by Warhawke - 2006-11-01 08:19
» Actually

1.3 MP is pathetic. Most cell phones come standard with at least a 2 MP camera. Also, 1.3 isn't all that great for use online since you can't really make out detail for anything to take pictures of.

by Pthrasher - 2006-11-01 08:32
» Sooo... finally it has come.....out........Ordering it first thing tomorrow!!

People it doesn't matter how much megapixels it has.

If yuo have a camera phone with 680x320 pixels or so then you would know that it looks better, even with 1.3mp. So that would mean considering the PSP screen is huge, the pics will look like 3mp, but the video might look awful because it only lets you record in a lower setting than the acual screen itself.

Only thing is... will they release a firmware upgrade by this weekend?Cause the Camera folder is empty? How would it run?Yes UMD is an opinion but they mention nothing of the sort anywhere that it will be on there...

by Critines - 2006-11-01 08:37

by DJ - 2006-11-01 08:38
» Guys

its not like that. read the reviews. it is better than u think. even though it is 1.3 the pic still looks like it is a higher res.

by Nohtreya - 2006-11-01 08:41
» He is right do.....

Yea he is right do....... It will look like 3.00mb mayb...becouse of the psp screen size

» 1.3mp is good enough

most people are rite about the 1.3mp being enough, ur not gonna be looking at a huge pic and 99.99% u gonna resize the pic anyways, its about the quality of the pic

by Warhawke - 2006-11-01 09:30
» It does matter

Actually, it matters quite a bit. Not everyone is going to keep the pictures from this camera on the PSP.

by ken - 2006-11-01 09:31
» firmware

the camera operates like a game when you run the included UMD

the UMD requires 2.81 but similar to GRAN THEFT AUTO VICE CITY STORIES, you can use DevHook to Run the UMD then use the camera for pictures and video.

by brandon099 - 2006-11-01 09:32
» ?????

I want to know if the editing software it comes with is in english as well....anyone know?

by databoy2k - 2006-11-01 09:43
» Folks, check the Price!!!

$50!! Chill out guys - it's a piece of software coupled with a camera! What, you expected a 7mp camera capable of 1600x1200 resolution for that price?

The camera's a cheap, small, little add-on. It comes coupled with software that probably would retail for $20 normally. Have any of you bothered to check out what camera's retail for now-a-days? I'll give you a hint - $30 is a really good price for a brand new digital camera, regardless of the resolution.

I'm thinking all the professional photographers on these forums are not going to be purchasing this add-on so they can take photos with their PSPs. For the rest of us that want to have a portable video camera, I'm not sure that this is the worst case scenario at all. Still curious about the firmware required to run it, though... We'll see I guess...

by looking at the picture, it looks like the camera is faced at the user of the psp. does the camera maybe flip over to face the other way?

and do you figure they will incorparate this into a game or anything like eye toy for psp or something?

by mem stick - 2006-11-01 11:38
» copy software to memory stick

I hope you can copy the software to your mempry stick, I dont want to carry the umd and boot it just to take a picture.

you - hey mind if I take a picture

people - sure

you - hold up I have to load up this umd

by Clefable - 2006-11-01 12:14
» Logitech leads the way.

I think that if we wait a week or 2, logitech will release a 3+(hopefully) mp logitech-psp camera that also looks nicer and can also take better videos. Unless of course the resolution is fixed by the firmware itself(i think this is distinctly possible).

If this can incorporated into homebrew and the video function of this camera is unlocked, I'm thinking this could be used as an iToy of some sort. It wouldn't use the whole body since the PSP is so small, but you could use your finger to play mini-games

.. do you really think it's a crisp clear 1280x1024? You can't honestly think that. If you want a good clear image you need more than 1.3 megapixels; by far. I'm not even satisfied with my 3 megapixel camera at resolutions higher than 640x480.

» Megapixels, photo capture, and it's purpose

First of all, megapixels doesn't neccicarilly mean higher resolution. The more megapixels, the more megapixels, the more it can be stretched before becoming pixelized (grainy). 2 cameras can take pictures at 1280x1024, PSP camera and some Canon, for example. Canon has 8.0 and the lesser has 1.3. Stretch the Canon picture up to who knows hpw many times, but the attachment camera's pic won't stretch much.

Second of all, the UMD is only needed to edit photos, not take. With the UMD though, you might be able to take with added effects. But just to get the picture, no UMD required.

Last of all, it's intended as a "webcam." I don't literally mean a webcam for chatting (though it may come as a feature later on); I really mean sort-of multipurpose. It's made to just meet your needs. It's is not intended as a digital camera replacement.

by you people - 2006-12-01 04:55
» are completely

retarded. What are we, 7 year olds? Go cry somewhere else, it just makes me NOT want to read comments.

I wish I could pay someone cash and have it in my hands now. Could someone point me at a 2MP USB webcam? Anyone? ohhhh yea, probably a design issue. Notice how Logitech JUST came out with the 1.3 models... and you MUST use USB2.0 for anything over 640x480@30fps for video, which this does.... So.. basically they are giving you the BEST technology available for cheaper than Logitech can provide. With a nifty case to keep your ass from breaking it.

50 bucks? a f-ing STEAL! Just in time for the holidays. I truly expected a $100 price point.
