At the risk of appearing controversial, we'll say it: the PSP D-pad is smelly doo-doo when it comes to fighting games. Sony whipped together one hell of a system in the PSP, but fighting games obviously weren't its biggest concern.

Enter Capcom. With an upcoming PSP conversion of Street Fighter Zero 3, considered one of the most refined 2D fighters around, Capcom had to be wondering how best to deal with the stiff d-pad ad its disposal. And the answer comes in the form of a pre-order bonus D-pad cover.

Pictured below, Capcom Japan will be handing out this so-called "Official Support Pad" to purchasers of Street Fighter Zero 3 Double Upper (Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max in the US) when the game sees Japanese release on 1/19. Double Upper producer Neo_G reveals that the accessory has been well accepted in Capcom's test labs.

taking apart the psp is easy, many think it looks hard but all you need to do is remove a few screws and the faceplate pops off. once the faceplate is off its a piece of cake

Yet another pointless "mod." I've never had a problem with the D-Pad. What we really need is a mod that turns the shape buttons into a D-Pad so we can actually play FPS games with ease (if any good ones ever get released).

This news title is very misleading, meaning they're only including this with limited sales...& only in japan so far...If CAPCOM really cared about fixing the Dpad issue it would come with every frikkin copy of the frikkin game.x(

Hell ya! I'm glad capcom saw a issue and is trying to fix it. I love my SF and this has sold me! I just hope they offer the same addon for the US release.

Does this mean that you have to take apart your PSP? and will retailers be doing this for free...as the average person doesn't know how to take apart the PSP without fuxoring it...

It will most likely be something that just goes right over the old dpad

My hope is that some 3rd party company sells this as an addon. Hell, I'd pay like, $15 for it. (Hint hint Pelican and Madcatz.)

Note to some. The PSP DPAD is actually fine. It's just alot of PSP have messed up ones. I didn't notice it until I held my friends PSP. His DPAD is so firm and awesome. He noticed the difference as soon as he touched my PSP. And i noticied it as well once I touched his.

Cbass182, it's probably just a add-on thing.

I am willing to pay extra $5; so if game itself is $40, then $45 for a special edition would be a reasonable price for me.

Seriously, Camcom USA should bring this special edition to the States as well. Playing Darkstalker and Guilty Gear with regular D-pad really did kill the gameplay considerably.

I'd rather make a little D-pad, cut the circular shape of the old D-pad out od the PSP's front frame, and replace the parts accordingly, but this is cool, too. I should make my own D-pad for my PSP. That'd be so cool. o_O

Truthfully both my PSP's D-Pads are fine for fighting games

Darkstalkers just seemed picky, because Guilty gear even not on "easy" mode (for the controlls not the difficulty) I could pull everything off pretty much fine.

I don't like the full single button D-pad that EVERY controller Except sony's dual shocks use. The Dual shock 2 had the best d-pad ever. so I would rather copy that one.

I would for sure take the faceplate off and replace the damn D-Pad with an improved version of it. I say we make some sort of plee to Sony and make more people aware of it. I was wondering, those with White psps out there, do you have any problems with diagnols in games using the D-pad?
