Buffalo to release Wi-Fi Gamer wireless device - Image 1Techies gather round, for Buffalo Technology has another plug-in wireless device aimed at Wi-Fi-capable consoles (and yes, that would mean you Sony and Nintendo button mashers) which they call the Wi-Fi Gamer. If their joint offering with Nintendo was a treat for Wii and DS gamers with XP rigs, this new device might tickle your fancy. We know you've got lost of love for your current Wi-Fi routers, but check this one out.

Not larger than a pack of playing cards, the Wi-Fi Gamer can work devoid of Windows computers - holding off the idea of port-hogging port on your PC. Instead the AirStation OneTouch Secure System (AOSS) gadget connects to an open port in your home or office LAN and runs its own wireless access point with the press of the "Connect" button.

And while Nintendo consoles have been working with AOSS for significant time now, even Sony has upped the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Portable (PSP) to AOSS compatibility levels with their recent firmware upgrades. In fact, Buffalo Technology has worked closely with Sony and Nintendo to ensure the systems feature AOSS push-button connectivity.

You can expect the Wi-Fi Gamer to hit US shores by August, carrying a price tag of US$ 49.99 to US$ 59.99 and sporting multiple connected device handling features. It's range is reportedly comparable to various other 802.11g network devices.

» i dont get it either

what advantage does this device have over other routers? is it supposed to be more convenient?

» wireless is crappy

blah lan cords FTW.

» purpose

it sounds to me like it creates an access point without the need of a computer, and it's small.

this is rather pointless and is far from a new concept.

the only advantage is its cheap and fits in your pocket 0_o --- and it will die in a few months

such bufallo wireless products have already out years ago, branded for nintendo DS and Wii, i wonder whats keeping them from tagging a Sony brand unto those products too.

the advantage of buffalo is that they have one touch AOSS program to ease and speed up the setup process and its is also more secured.

most wireless products such as the PSP DS Wii PS3 has AOSS support built unto them.

» AOSS

This sound like a good idea really.

Better connection to the net and without having to set up WEP or other such codes and passwords. Basically a portable router the size of a pack of cigarettes. If you travel and come across in laws, brothers, friends house ect. that has a wired/wireless router with one unused port, you can plug right in and press one button and BAM your connected. That beats having to ask a bunch of questions like whats your WEP codes/passwords. Convenient yes! and affordable enough to boot. All you others talking trash about wireless, I'd love to see you plug a LAN line into your PSP. Theirs always got to be some haters, never fails.

WiFi MAX does work, your just to stupid to figure it out.

» I have a D-Link Router

It works fine and it is about the size of 3 boxes of cards. When you go somewhere and you want wireless access just scan for access points and connect to a neighbors internet connection.

has anyone ever wondered why pspupdates.qj.net is the leading psp homebrew site and sony havent even attempted to shut it down for supplying files?

or perhaps the reason why sony have a link to this site with a logo and said it would be deleted but never was?

or perhaps how there firmware releases keep having obvious and findable glitch's in them like no other and in one firmware they unpatched an exploit and then repatched it again when it was re-discovered???

i think there is a summary coming up here:

in my opinion pspupdates is created by sony and sony keep unpatching and making exploit possiblilitys on purpose...

think about it for a second before you turn this down, take a look at this first:

1)Sony creates the new port console psp

2)Sony releases psp 1.00 with easy to find exploits

3)people begin to find out and create some little homebrew applications

4)sony discover (there own) exploit and create a new version with it patched

5)little community gets angry and finds a new exploit once again made by sony

6)psp fw updates are halted for a while and homebrew and emulators begin to be made along with fw hacks...

7)sony patch up twice more and they notice there firmware is not bieng hacked whatsoever, comm unity fails to increase in size.

8)Psp debut release to the rest of the world and sony kick off the begining of the psp with......a new exploit hole.... ZOMFG???

9)homebrew community find the glitch and homebrew begins to expand as people code gbc,gb,snes emulators as well as hit hb titles as smashgpsp.

10)sony realizes that the homebrew community is expanding and make some newer versions namingly 2.01-2.50-2.60

11)No hacks are found as of yet but whats this??? A GLITCH IS FOUND IN THE MOST BOUGHT GAME SO FAR???? wow and sony definatly didnt have nothing to do with that.....

12)Sony bieng as they are do there best to hide the homebrew community by placing a link to pspupdates on one of there sites.

13)sony claims this is an accident and says they will remove (july 2006)

14)july 2007 sony still fail to remove the link....oh by the way did i forget to mention the site where the link to pspupdates is is on the instruction manual of the psp???

::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::: :::::

i think you can see the pattern and if you dont then you are foolish.

think what you think but i think there is something going on here and that timeline reveals it....

» Hey buddy

For the same price you can get a g router with extended range. And you don't have to setup a wep key, just choose not to broadcast your network name, name it something people won't think of and you're done. I have cable internet and I have an open plug on my router- consoles will connect to it by cable with out any set-up, it's what they do.

by Jesus Man - 2007-07-23 21:13
» thats not always possible

How are you going to decrypt their wep code on the psp? I don't think theirs an app out yet that will do that on the psp. So your counter don't really work 100%.

by Jesus Man - 2007-07-23 21:21
» What page.

I want to check in on this theory. What page in the instruction manual does it state pspupdates?

by j - 2007-08-09 08:08
» hey, this is going to help, idoits
