SanDisk

A couple of months ago, SanDisk made an announcement that sent all PSP owners to sheer delight; they will come out with a 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo. Of course something that can store up to 64 hours of MP3 music tracks, more than 20 hours of movies and videos and 4,000 digital still images would make the $219.99 retail price justified, in any case.

However, would you believe that it's being sold over buy.com for almost half its original price according to bargain hunting website AntiRebate? Intrigued on why this is so, I hurried over buy.com. only to find out that the item is currently unavailable from the manufacturer. And when that message is displayed alongside the product, it means that they are not accepting any orders and that you should constantly check the website for the product's availability.

Aren't you just hoping that it'll be soon?

Unlikely

It's most likely a bait product, that they never intend to carry for that price, listed at that price to get you to the store, where you may end up buying something else.

re:3gb

No it's all ^2 So 32/64/128/256/512/1024/2048/4096 and unless they've changed the support in newer firmwares (I don't keep up on everything), 4GB is the maximum supported, so 8GB(8192) would be useless for PSP owners, so not likely to be produced any time soon, which is unfortunate, because they would at least drive down the price of the 4GB cards.

8GB is coming soon...

@7, the 8GB MS is coming out later this year, a firmware upgrade, sony said, is all that is needed to change the max capacity.

by - 2006-08-01 11:59:07
bored

Yes I'm really bored. lol @12 That's good news, and hopefully DH will be able to load into that firmware so that 1.5ers can use 8GB sticks (of course a custom firmware may also end up being another option). :)

Anna the price is $155. (http://www.buy.com/prod/SanDisk_4GB_Memory_Stick_PRO_Duo_4_GB_Memory_Stick_PRO_Duo/q/loc/101/202629242.html)

Better Deal

I found a better deal, idk if it's an error or not but i ordered 3 just in case. http://stores.tomshardware.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=21546505 I found it there on a store called thenerds.net i'm assuming they're out right now but they were 102 dollars with 8 dollar shipping. This is the gaming edition too.

See here...

I am not being defensive here, but the time that I wrote this article and went to the site there wasn't any price on there and at that time it was currently available. So the $104.99 price, because of lack of choice, was based on what was posted over at AntiRebate. But, good if it has the price and is already available. ^^

by - 2006-08-01 16:44:31
still no price

When I follow the link you posted, then the next link to go to buy.com from there, it still comes up with no price for me. And still says "This item is currently unavailable from the Manufacturer."

by - 2006-08-01 17:31:27
nope, thank you

it's listed at $154 bucks now. so i'm guessing the 104 was a major typo.

by - 2006-08-01 17:49:02
$108!!!

heres one i found for only $108 (http://www.digitaletc.com/item.php?ref=fr&productid=4430)

uk

will ibe able to ship these to the uk as i am very interested in the 4 gig stick, also will the 4 gig stick work on the 1.5 psp ????????

by Erekiddo - 2006-08-02 00:27:48
8gig + is possible on psp

ok lets say it for those who said psp can take more than 4g mem stick.....on the psp launch they said it can hold up to 4g mem stick and the day that 8g 16g 32g (!!) mem stick will arrive they said they change that with newer update....and guess what ? im pretty sure that custom firmware would get a fix to that prob........so more than 4g is possible and will be on psp !

Can anyone find a site that offers this same deal but ships to Australia? Ozzies need 4gbs of goodness too!!!

by - 2006-08-02 03:46:38
About that stick...

I just saw the model of the stick. Does the non-transparent sandisk sticks work well for the PSP?

by - 2006-08-02 04:18:28
Custom firmware

hmm i reckon if they could make custom firmware access more than 4gb of memory i would rather a 1.8 inch 60gb hard drive http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=T60MK6006H this would make the psp KILL the ipod
