8GB Memory Stick PRO Duo for US$ 209.99

8GB Memory Stick PRO Duo - Image 1While browsing over various sites, we came across this page offering a Sony Memory Stick PRO Duo for roughly US$ 210 (209.99 to be exact). This Frys offer, while not exactly what we could call a "steal", is still considerably cheaper compared to the original US$ 325 price tag previously set by Sony.

This latest expansion to PSP-compatible memory stick is said to be part of Sony's buildup for future digital content for its handheld gaming device. With 8 GB of storage space (well, 7.35GB actually after some file allocation and formatting), it's not hard to imagine what possible media downloads we should expect for our portables. 2007 is said to be the year for PSP, with games like Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War, Silent Hill: Origins and a lot more coming out, and the looming interconnectivity with PS3, could this expanded memory stick be the sign of things to come?

[insert time traveling space warp SFX here] Back to the deal, if you've got 210 greenbacks to spare this could be a good chance to grab a whopping 8 GB of extra memory space. If not, then let's get to back to mere speculating on how this could affect us... [reinsert time traveling space warp SFX here]

Isn't the psp still limited to 4gig max of storage though?

I think that if you have a firmware higher than 2.8 you should be fine. If you have a 1.5 you're screwed unless you upgrade of course.

# 3.xxoe with 8gbGuest 2007-03-09 04:56
Does anyone know if there is any conflict with running 1.5 kerrnel on 3.xxoe? I know for instance certain 1.5 homebrew can't use wi-fi unless connection is wep or open, since that is all 1.5fw had, and 1.5fw only supported 4gb...3.xxoe is hybrid 1.5/3.xx....

Remeber sony is working on 32gb pro duo. Think less than 1 year ago a 1gb card cost near $100. Now you can get 4gb for around $50. I have one 1g, three 2g, and one 4g. Funny I paid less for the 4g than any other.

1g = $100 psp gigapack ($299) Jan 06

2g = $ 55 buy.com Mar 06

4g = $ 60 newegg.com Nov 06

Found with Shopping.com or Shopzilla.com

Why do you people need 8GB of space. I have a 1GB, 2GB and a 4GB. And I only use my 4GB because it has more then enough space for what I need. I don't even use my 1GB and 2GB anymore.

So my question again... Why do you need so much space? Unless your using your PSP for something less then legal...

Man, what a question

My music collection (legally bought) in mp3 is about 30GB or even more ?

My pmp video collection (legally bought) is about 50GB

My psp games collection (legally bought) is about 20GB

Don´t ask for legal pdf, pictures, homebrew

So WTH do you mean with your question ? You can NEVER have enough space for a psp.

I got my psp 1.5 exactly a year ago.....and a 2 gig was expensive. But now i got a 4gb which i paid 150 cuz i couldnt wait lol But i paid 240 with shipping for my psp and pay 210 for a memory card.....still way to much. But why do we need 8 gb of space, i use my psp for everything. My ipod is lost somewhere. Mp3's, PMP movies, mp4 video, psp games, homebrew, PS ONE GAMES!!!! Ill probably buy another 4gb and wait for a big price drop on this 8gb. I cant imagine how a rip off the 16 gb gonna be next year. 350 maybe, wish the psps had a 20 gb hard drive!!!

because most people who visit this site use their psp's for something less than legal.

for those who steal games, sony makes up for by selling large memory sticks. or somebody really needs everything on their computer to be portable.

In the uk you can get these for £100 with free postage. from gameplay.com. That works out a few £ cheaper than frys

Why wouldn't you want 8 gigs. The psp is an MP3 player. Every quality mp3 player has at least an 8 gig model. Plus if you want some movies on your stick they are about 600 mbs. The psp couldn't compete with the ipod for just this reason but now it's getting to be a really good alternative.

You guys are so one-sided couldn't you just buy a :

Max Media Thingy=$30

8 GB Compact Flash=$70

Wow I solved the most chaotic problem of the year.

OMFG 8Gb mem duo is $200.

Unless you have 200 bucks to go out and buy a 8Gb mem duo.But I just wanted to note that your paying for about 16GB if you double the 8GB compact flashes.

On maxconsole its been confirmed that it partially works for 3.XXOE fw. It will work for UMDs, ISOs, Popstation Games, and anything done through the XMB like movies or music. It will not work with fw 1.5 homebrew though. It will just freeze up your PSP when you try to run it. Supposedly there might be a solution but you might want to wait a bit before ordering one. Or just make sure you keep your old memory card and use that one for homebrew and the 8gb for everything else.

Dude how did you get that much space, I want that much space... even if I have to solder it'd be worth it.. as long as it works on 3.03 OE-C+ and you can use it for 1.50 kernel.

sorry man it seems that you've bricked. you probably have had a ta-082 motherboard, or used the wrong downgrader. recovery mode is only custom firmwares, not sony firmware updates. you can try to return it to best buy, i dont know how they handle that. sorry man
