yes it is, sony stated in the press release it will work with the current pro duo devices, just not at the full 8-bit connection speed as that would need a hardware upgrade to utilize. so it will work with the full storage but only with the 4bit connection. obviously a firmware update will be needed. and this stick should come standard built in to the psp2, or something like it.

When you buy a 750GB hard drive you see 698.5GB in windows. Are you going to go back to the store and complain your missing 50GB? NO, because thats what the hard drive manufactures did. Sony is following the "STANDARD" and Microsoft and every company in the world. Your getting 8,000,000,000 bytes on the memory stick and thats how it is. Although you're just trying to relate things, your example kind of... just sucks. You see, we're not talking about a 750 GB hard drive, that has so much storage you wouldn't even realize 50 GB is missing. But when you're trying to fit as much as you can for travel or whatever on a 1 giger, or 4 giger, you know when you're not getting the whole deal. Even a gig stick has something like 940 MB... that may not seem like a big deal, but if you only have 1 gig to start with and it chops off 60 MB, trust me there is always an extra video or some songs to go on it.

The people here complaining about the price of this 8GB memory stick either just recently bought a PSP or have the worst short term memory. Don't you remember when 1GB sticks were released? Or when 2GB sticks were new? How about when 4GB sticks were let loose? THEY WERE ALL EXPENSIVE! I bought my 2GB memory stick around 4 months after they were released and I paid $130 for it. Haven't kept up with prices on them but I wouldn't doubt if you could buy one now for around $50. They will start off expensive till they get enough shipments out or till demand for them starts to drop. That's how things work. Also, 8GB memory sticks aren't exactly meant for the PSP. While it can most deffinately use the memory stick, and Sony is counting on that, it can also be used on other Sony products that except Pro Duo sticks or PRO sticks with the adapter.
