The classic generation of gaming that includes the likes of the SNES, NES and Sega Genesis among others has been known to be one of the greatest times in industry history. Because the market was less competitive, everything was cheaper, and games were simpler to understand, the whole feel for the time period was a lot less stressful. As we move on into the next generation, here are a few aspects from those early years that I think you will see rise again in the coming months.

Games Will Be Cheaper

With the global economy as terrible as it is today, folks from all walks of life are looking for some quality fun that you can have on the cheap. As we look at the current generation, almost everything out there starts at a rate of sixty dollars, and I think this is at least part of the reason we have seen content sales hitting a pretty steady decline. We just don't have the money to buy the amount of games that we used to. If we do buy games, they will often be a year or so after they have made it over to the discount rack.

20DollarBill

Back in the classic era, this was never the case. If you wanted a brand new game, all you had to do was head over to the nearest Funco Land with a twenty dollar bill in your pocket and you would be granted hours upon hours of enjoyment. I can ever remember getting Gameboy games for as low as ten dollars! Spurred on by the increase in digital distribution and the popularity of smartphone game applications, I think we will see a lot more games out there hitting that lower price point. Will they be as full-featured as the triple-A efforts? Almost certainly not. However some of them might be just as entertaining. We see specks of it on the on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live now, but I think we'll see a bigger push toward that model on the next generation machines.

Not only will games be cheaper, but they might also be easier to understand. I'll explain what I mean on the very next page!

i do enjoy reading articles like this but OP you dont think that all of that is asking too much? sure bring back split screen multiplayer and games under 60$ but i dont agree with the cinematics page. without a story content and choices fail, fallout is a good example great game but the story was flawed but its still in my top 5 due to it being 30$ with all expansions. hope this is the route devs take the longer a system lasts and the cheaper things are they wont stop making money, nintendo could start making nes and snes remakes with the same hardware and have triple the sales of the wii u.

So glad you enjoy reading my stuff! I could be wrong, but I think you may have misunderstood what I mean about cinematics though. I don't really mean that story will be less important, only that you'll be interacting with all of it rather than just sitting and watching a movie. Games like the ones I mentioned all put story at the front of their game, but you could interact with all of it. I just see that being more the trend rather than sitting and watching a half our scripted video.

Amen to that! I think now that we've seen games like TWD lay down a good path like that we probably will see some improvements on that end. It depends what you like, but I'm more drawn in to a good story even if the gameplay is really basic.

I'm all for this stuff, but this seems a little far-fetched. Honestly, I don't think devs will magically start making good games again all of a sudden.
