Want to Know What To Expect from the Next Generation? Features from Classic Consoles May Hold the Key! |

The classic generation of gaming that includes the likes of the SNES, NES and Sega Genesis among others has been known to be one of the greatest times in industry history. Because the market was less competitive, everything was cheaper, and games were simpler to understand, the whole feel for the time period was a lot less stressful. As we move on into the next generation, here are a few aspects from those early years that I think you will see rise again in the coming months.
Games Will Be Cheaper
With the global economy as terrible as it is today, folks from all walks of life are looking for some quality fun that you can have on the cheap. As we look at the current generation, almost everything out there starts at a rate of sixty dollars, and I think this is at least part of the reason we have seen content sales hitting a pretty steady decline. We just don't have the money to buy the amount of games that we used to. If we do buy games, they will often be a year or so after they have made it over to the discount rack.

Back in the classic era, this was never the case. If you wanted a brand new game, all you had to do was head over to the nearest Funco Land with a twenty dollar bill in your pocket and you would be granted hours upon hours of enjoyment. I can ever remember getting Gameboy games for as low as ten dollars! Spurred on by the increase in digital distribution and the popularity of smartphone game applications, I think we will see a lot more games out there hitting that lower price point. Will they be as full-featured as the triple-A efforts? Almost certainly not. However some of them might be just as entertaining. We see specks of it on the on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live now, but I think we'll see a bigger push toward that model on the next generation machines.
Not only will games be cheaper, but they might also be easier to understand. I'll explain what I mean on the very next page!
