EA Talks $70 Games: Was It a Typo, or a Failed Price Plan?
No matter how much we love our games, the truth behind it all is that in recent years things have gotten quite expensive. For many of us, $60 to buy brand new is a steep price to pay, which has lead many to resort to going used just to save those few extra bucks. In a recent interview, EA's CFO Blake Jorgensen made mention of possible $70 games which took the internet by storm. You'll be glad to know now however that the whole thing was just a typo...or was it?

If I had to guess, honestly I would have to say it probably was. If you take the quote in full context, it's easy to see that the CFO was wrong in the statement because the typed words indicated that games cost $69 today which is definitely not accurate. It does beg the question though of just how much games could cost for next-gen systems. Sony's price report says anywhere from $1-$60 but could we see that change when big guns like EA step in? I don't really think so. With the economy as bad as it is, consumers have a hard enough time paying $60 so I can't see it going higher. Not to mention such an increase would further promote used game sales which is the last thing developers want right now. In fact, if I had to guess, I think you'll start seeing more games on the cheaper side than anything. The triple A stuff will probably stick to $60, but as indie gets a stronger hold, other lower prices seem a lot more feasible. I certainly wouldn't pay $70 for a game.
Would you quit your job over a religious dispute? One BioShock: Infinite developer almost did. My opinion follows just a single click away!
