Games Are the Real Headliner for The PS4 Event

While Sony may have been just a little vague with just about every other aspect, the plans for its games were a lot more concrete. With new releases from the likes of Ubisoft, SuckerPunch, Bungie, and even Blizzard, it was clear that the company spared no expense to show that at its core the PlayStation brand is still all about the games. In general, the titles all looked pretty impressive, with graphics that even came close to rivaling some of the top-budget digitally animated films. The only real problem I will always have with events like this is that a lot of what was shown was more on the cinematic side of things. Videos supposedly running off a fresh devkit are pretty cool, but after what happened at the PS3 reveal, I tend not to fully believe in a console until I see how games look as they are actually being played live.

All that said, the demo I found most impressive was Ubisoft's own live Watch_Dogs section. Sure we may have never got to see someone actually holding a controller, but what we saw on the screen was convincing enough for me to see what the full PS4 experience is going to be like. The same can also be said about Knack which we very visibly saw being played live on a PlayStation Vita. The other big moments for games came in partnerships openly announced by both Blizzard and Bungie to bring exclusive content to the console. Blizzard in general seemed a lot more like they might only be making games for Sony platforms which makes for a lot of MMO-intrigue for the future. What we will actually see remains somewhat undecided, but Blizzard's Diablo III and Bungie's Destiny certainly look like worthy additions to the PS repertoire.

All in all, I think Sony had a pretty great event, but what about you? Let me know by leaving a comment below!

Totaly agree with you on this. Sony are holding out till MS xbox event. Was great to see the quality of games that we can expect. Shame it was announced that Watch Dogs was running on a PC and most of the demos are prerendered using game engines. Think e3 will be bloody great this year though.Just hope its all about the games not willy waving hardware.

Of course Watch Dogs was running on a PC. Remember, we seen a longer demo of it at E3. The game started production for the PC first, long ago. It was announced (not a secret) that Watch Dogs was running on a similar spec PC.

As far as prerender, I was far more shocked to see gameplay. The event was to announce that another console was in the works, and they showed gameplay!?! That is unheard of.

Are you one of those people that I could give a million dollars, and you would reply by saying, it's just a shame that I couldn't get two?

Didn't know Watch_Dogs was running on PC, but that is true. After writing this did feel like maybe this was more negative than it should have been. I was actually impressed with a lot of it as long as the features catch on.

I want 2 million dollars!
Dont get me wrong I stayed up to the wee hours to watch this (UK) and enjoyed it. Even woke the wife up to say we need to start saving. Was happy with what was shown. As for watch dogs was not common knowledge it wasnt running on pc. Not till ubi talk after show, by which time I was in bed dreaming of realistic floating heads and big dragons. My point being prerenders dont really give you a sense of what the game will be like and we all got stung in the past with the ps3 killzone trailer. Great to see games on show hence my looking forward to E3.

"Dreaming of realistic floating heads". That's funny.

I told my Wife that I was going to have to pull a bank job at some point this year. She just started a business, so I am broke.

That was pretty pessimistic. A little jaded, are we?

Lol not jaded. I actually enjoyed the event quite a bit. Maybe just the few bad things that bothered me bled through too much. In all likelihood I'll probably be getting a PS4 whether I use the social features, motion controls, or not. :P

I don't care about the social features, or motion controls at all. If it were up to me, I would get rid of those things to help bring the price down.
