Sony's Latest Patent Reveals A Hot New Controller |

It's no secret that company's file patents for various products all the time; and the fact is, most of these products never actually see the light of day. However, every once and a while, the industry will come across a rather interesting publicly filed patent from one of our favorite companies, giving us a small glimpse of what the future may hold. According to a recent report from Kotaku, Sony happens to be next in the line of patent intrigue with its new (and possibly strange) brand of controller.

In the headline when I said that Sony showed us a peek at their "hot" new controller, I actually meant it quite literally. As shown by the official documents, it appears that on top of the much beloved rumble feature, corporate big guns are also toying with the idea of utilizing temperature change as well. Essentially what I mean is, the peripheral described in this design would actually get hotter or colder depending on what was going on with your game. In its present state, the screenshot will show that it looks like they could be attempting to create an updated PlayStation Move, but obviously at this stages the design is far too new to reach any firm conclusion on that.
You might be asking yourself then, why on earth would I want such a feature in my remote, and luckily Kotaku has an answer for you. For lovers of shooters, it's possible that now you'll have the realistic option of your gun overheating when it is fired too often. Fantasy junkies can also get their fill of this by being able to feel the heat of those fire balls as well. Maybe in the more refined state, search and find titles like LA Noire could make use of this by allowing the user to play a literal game of hot and cold while searching for clues. More applicable to all of us though, what hardcore gamer wouldn't want a controller that could cool off those sweaty palms? Does this sound like a hot idea to you, or could this product wind up dead cold on arrival?
