Sony Bluffing About PS3 Prices? |
Listed in: Rumors, News Tags: playstation rumors, ps3 news, ps3 updates

Chris Morris at CNN/Money has an interesting theory on Sony’s insistence that the Playstation 3 will “be expensive” — are they bluffing? The advantage would be twofold: first, set consumer expectation high, then surprise them with something much lower, driving a potentially much larger buying rush. Secondly, lull Microsoft into thinking they can get away with sticking an extra high pricetag on the Xbox 360, scaring off some of its potential buyers.
The other potential reason for crowing about high pricing expectations might be to force Microsoft to make the first move, thus prepping consumers to get beyond the cognitive barrier of paying more than 0 for a game console. And, you know, it’s not like we would be shocked and appalled to discover than Sony totally played the media on this one

I wish they could have low prices. But to compensate for low prices you need more masse and Sony really needs money, they have not gotten any profit for a while.

Gosh SONY, your such a monster. Eating all of our incomes day in and day out with all these "extras" and "add-ons" to everything you make. Still. . . .I love SONY for its determination to create and become the best of the best. And I personally think HALOs suck, Killzone is not an HALO killer but lets face it, HALO is no where close to CS or Time Splitters.

True that lmfao

Well you can thank the newly made Blue-Ray technology, and the Bluetooth support for the high price of the PS3.
Personally, I do think it may be true that Sony is trying to get M$ make their first move and set a high price but I just can't see the PS3 at a lower price than $399.
If they do get to release a lower priced version then that'll be really damn impressive.

Sony try to make alot of money so that they can make better things for us, sure a lot of people or companies want money, even when they have a lot already, but sony does not really care about the money that they make, its about the pride, they want to let people know what they can do to let people injoy, have better intertainment, they lost a lot of money to make the ps1,2, and aspecialy 3, the cell chip took chunk loads of money off of them.

Are you kidding? Look at what they are doing to the psp. Sony is more greedy than microsoft. Look at sony memorysticks. First, they use systems with proprietry media formats, memorysticks, minidisks, umd, mini b, which will never appear in a non sony product. This makes the consumer have to buy extra products and give sony more money. But products like compact flash or SD can be used in most cameras, computers, ect. I just wish they were right about sony bluffing but they arn't. If the ps3 will use blu-ray, expect to pay at least 500+ minimum. And that is only if sony takes a serious loss the first couple of years.

Either way, high price or not, Microsoft will most probably have a price drop on their Premium Bundle when PS3 decides to release their system to a reasonable price. I highly doubt PS3 will be in the 300 range due to its hi-technology advances.

If Sony using Memory Sticks and UMDs in the PSP is "greedy", I'd like to see what you call a 20 GB hard drive for $99.99.

It does not look as if the ps3 is not going to have blu-ray compatibility, well I mean by the looks of it the ps3 doesn't have a blu-ray disk, they may change it or have a hidden drive...
