It’s no secret that Sega is steadily moving through its old archive of Dreamcast titles, looking for ways in which to re-profit from titles that people already love. Just in the last year, we’ve seen Get Bass, Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Sonic Adventure and others come to new consoles in one form or another. Any rumor of an HD remake of an old Dreamcast game seems, at the very least, somewhat credible.

So here’s the meat: An anonymous source inside the industry has confirmed with Gamerzines that not only are HD remakes of Shenmue I and II in the works, they’ve been finished for over a year. Sega is simply waiting to release them until a future plan for the franchise emerges. In other words, Sega is trying to figure out if they’re going to make Shenmue III.

This rumor lines up with comments made by Sega’s Ben Harbone, who earlier this week mentioned Shenmue and Skies of Arcadia as two possible upcoming HD remakes.

Just like the other rumors reported today, this one is still unconfirmed. We’ll stay on the hunt and let you know if anything changes.
