Pixar just announced its 2012 production schedule, and in the process set the internet on fire with insane rumors. The animated film studio revealed a film centered on Dia de los Muertos, as well as a new film called The Untitled Pixar Movie that Takes You Inside the Mind. Because the web is the web, fans immediately decided these two titles were Grim Fandango and Psychonauts adaptations.
But how do these assertions hold up? John Lasseter talked about the second film in December and noted that it takes place in the mind of a young girl—not really Psychonauts material. As for the other film, while less information is available, the company has noted that it’s based on an original story. In other words, not on a video game.
Sorry to be the buzzkill, but it looks like Grim Fandango and Psychonauts will be staying in the realm of awesome games for now.
