Kutaragi Planning PS4 Already?

Forget about the PS3, Sony is already hinting at the PS4. Ken Kutaragi, the man behind the PlayStation division, recently told the BBC that ”[Sony] wants to lead with the PlayStation 3, and beyond that to the PlayStation 4 within the next decade.” It’s only logical that all major game manufacturers are planning for the next decade, but only Sony seems to be talking about it. Why is that?

Here are some alternative interpretations for your cognitive pleasure:

   1. Only a few days before Microsoft’s 360 launch, Sony says: “Hey, we still make game consoles. Give us our due.” Free publicity is always nice.
   2. ”Look, Sony isn’t going anywhere. We are the leaders, and it will stay that way. You want the best games, buy PlayStation.”
   3. ”If you want the best gaming technology, we got you covered for the next decade.”
   4. ”Let’s start a repeat of the insanely successful PS2 hype machine. Why not now?”

I would be willing to bet the guy who wrote the "fall of Sony" article or whatever it was called thinks they won't last. I think neither M$ nor Sony will drop out this gen and move on to the next. Nintendo will definitely continue on, seeing as they always make money no matter what their popularity.

*wonders if someone else will decide to pop in or a merge will happen*

yea...i know what you mean zack..i just find it hard(and i am sure many others) that sony would lose that easily to any console..i love M$ to death and love Nitnendo dearly...but i doubt they can beat Sony.

If another consoles merges...i don't know if i should be happy or sad...more compition would be good...

but i don't really want to spend over 3000 a year on games...

Nothing new

They said this with PS3 when they just released PS2

Their words on "Super Computer like features" are now reality and will soon be open to the world.

Nothing new.

i would bet that 360 will be ahead in sells until 2007 and then sony will surpass them and stay ahead by 10-20%. then when psr and the new xbox come out in 2011? they will be close in popularity but with sony slightly ahead. just my theory/guess. but they will both be in console for decades.

I wish that Nintendo had stuck with Sony throughout the WHOLE construction of the original PlayStation and were still mereged into one gaming company. Frankly, I believe that the gaming market belongs to Japan and should stay that way to ensure quality and art in games. If Sony and nintendo were still joined, not only would they far surpass microsoft, but we would also have higher power systems...EVERYONE WOULD WIN!! ^-^...except the US...but they can afford it

Plans for PS4 are limited to the advances in technology. Fastest chip ive seen for any home applicance is 5GHz. The over heating of the cpu is the wall stoping people like intel and amd from mass producing home/office CPU's capable of out running 5GHz. Once this threshold has been broken who knows....PS4 = Live TV quality or even.....holographic

Japan isn't the only country that creates good games...there are even quite a few crappy games that come from japan.

I think there should be compition.
