Could PS2 Emulation Be Coming Back To The PS3? |
Listed in: Rumors Tags: compatibility, PS2, ps3 emulator
First let me give you a little history lesson about the PS3 and PS2 compatibility. At first if we were lucky enough to have gotten our PS3’s early then it came equipped with the PS2’s emotion chip before Sony removed it as a cost cutting measure. Sony then replaced it with a PS2 software emulation that although buggy still allowed for PS2 games to be played on your PS3. Unfortunately that didn't last long either and Sony removed it from its console altogether and we are left with a PS3 in its current state.

Now it appears that Sony could be on its way to bringing back reverse compatibility to its systems based on their latest job post on its site. According to the post they are looking for a "PS2 Emulation Debug Engineer” with “PS2 platform experience: Have worked on one or more PS2 titles.” and “Knowledge of PS2 subsystems such as IOP, VU, VIF. (2+ years).” The only question is do they plan on bringing back PS2 compatibility on the PS3 or are they planning ahead for the PS4. Time will tell of course but I would like to think that they are bringing back one of their original selling features to the PS3. What do you think?
