PSN Down Tomorrow, New Share Rules Active |
Listed in: PlayStation Network Tags: ps3 firmware, psn downtime, psn sharing
We discussed Sony’s recent decision to change the game sharing limit from five games to two a few weeks back, and (judging from the comments) people didn’t seem too happy about the new policy. Regardless of booming customer complaints, Sony is moving forward with the plan and will take PSN down from 8am to 10pm (PST) tomorrow to implement the update.

This means if you want to buy games that still fall under the old five-game limit, you need to buy them before the service goes down tomorrow morning.
Sony is calling the 14-hour downtime “routine maintenance,” but it certainly seems like a long time for their online service to be off-limits. I don’t own a PS3 so I’m unfamiliar with their maintenance routine – please let me know in the comments if this is something they do frequently.
During the downtime, you won’t be able to access the PlayStation Store, Account Management or create new accounts, and you won’t be able to access your account via the web. Here’s one strange thing though, Sony indicates in their official blog that “some users” may still be able to play online. Some?
There’s also a PS3 firmware update included in the maintenance, but details are scant. We’ll keep you posted as we get more information.
How do you feel about the new game sharing limits?

That's why I NEVER buy the DL version of a game that has a hardcopy version.
Plus, companies that sell a PSN only game, spend much less money with marketing, manufacturing and distribution. They have no problems with copies stuck on store shelf. So DL games should be much cheaper than hardcopy equivalents, or they should allow sharing. Now I bet they won't make the games cheaper, even with more people having to buy it 'cause they can't share it as before.
