PSN Down for “Significant” Maintenance

Sony has just announced that its online gaming service, PlayStation Network, will be pulled offline for roughly 14 hours tomorrow. The company confirmed this through the PlayStation Blog, where it wrote that PSN would be coming down for “significant maintenance.”

PSN will be down from 8:00am PST to 10pm PST—beyond that, there isn’t much information on what exactly Sony is updating or performing maintenance on. The company has yet to respond to press inquiries on the subject, but we’ll keep you posted as details roll out.

Sony will force log-out anyone on PSN tomorrow; no PSN users will be able to log in until maintenance is complete. The PlayStation Store and PlayStation Home will be inaccessible as well. Players will be unable to play online games or access their PSN accounts. Big bummer for anyone that just picked up SSX.

Speculation on the downtime ranges from Vita-related updates to the PSN/SEN transfer, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

What are you going to do with your downtime hours?

There is something called offline play. You should try it some day.

This is true, except that SSX's meat is in the online. The single-player campaign is basically a tutorial.

Not true at all. Online is just adding Geotags to the mountains in places you don't want other players to find them. The longer they are there the more XP you get when it is found. That and racing ghosts is all online is. There is no realtime online gaming in SSX. The meat really is the campaign. You play as different characters to keep unlocking more items. You won't miss the online for one day. Still a great game, but Mr. F is a little bit off.

Source: Tested the game.

Seems every other week PSN's down for maintenance and people just accept that's the price you pay for having a Ps3, and yet XBL just keeps going and when it does go down it's like the end of the world because it's such a rare occurrence.

uhh, psn is almost never offline, and doesn't xblive have a weekly scheduled down time...that is a lot more downtime than psn's once every 6 months. have fun paying for the same service that should be and is free elsewhere. now proceed to tell me how you think xboxlive is better. oh wait, they are the same service. ill keep 60 bucks in my pocket for a new game while i play online for free. thanks

My XBL was down for over a week....THREE TIMES!

PSN has been down less times then XBL since day one of PSN. So who exactly is excepting what? I ditched my final 360 on ebay.

Don't worry, this troll posts the same crap on any Sony-related article on the site. Makes me think he's Mr. F or Carl B.

probably has something to do with e3 flasher allowing full downgrade from 4.11 + allows dual booting so you can go back to 4.11 and play on PSN.

It's down because of Wololo's VHBL. http://wololo.net/wagic/2012/03/01/and-the-game-used-for-vhbl-is/ He found a way to exploit the vita via a game on the PSN, so they're taking measures to ensure people can't download it again til it's fixed. They can't just shut down the PSN, so they gave ya'll a warning beforehand.

Use Ctrl + F and type in "Xbox" and you'll find two posts that mention the word. That troll and you. Of course, now it will include mine once this post is approved.

Unless you guys don't approve my comment once again.

Wow, okay. Idiot. XBL isn't "Xbox vs. PS3."
