PS3 Firmware 3.73 Live |
Listed in: PlayStation Network Tags: ps3 firmware 3.73, psn, sony updates
If you love minor, behind-the-scenes updates to your gaming hardware, then today is certainly your day. Sony has just pushed firmware update 3.73 to the PSN servers, and while the download isn’t mandatory it’s probably something you should take part in just to ensure you’re as up to date as possible.

Of course, Sony is being purposefully vague in regards to what exactly the patch does, saying only "Stability during use of certain PS3 format software has been improved." This message should be familiar to PS3 owners, as it’s the same basic message they get any time firmware updates com along.
It is curious to see a firmware update released so quickly after the last one – it’s only been about a month since 3.72 – and I can only wonder if it has anything to do with the last batch of PSN account hacks. While Sony was adamant that their network wasn’t breached and the hackers were trying old data, it always makes me feel a bit odd to see a firmware push immediately after a confirmed attack. Of course, if a firmware update is critical for fixing PS3 problems, it’s usually not optional.
Either way, staying up to date on your firmware keeps your PS3 and its data a bit safer (except for when it bricks the console, but hey – that’s rare). Most of the time Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo will force you to update firmware, but in this case it looks like it’s largely up to you.
Do you ever get the feeling that a quick firmware rollout is in place to solve a problem you haven’t yet found out about?

Actually, I get the feeling it solves an exploit not yet found out about.

What the heck are you talking about? Nothing you said made any sense towards my comment.
Let me use different words for you:
It would take a pretty major update with the inclusion of a major feature to get me to update from my current FW version of which I can load homebrew. Therefore....not this update!

so, techincally, it does refer to your comment. just say it, you dont want to update because you're cheap.

That has nothing to do with my comment because I can download apps. Therefore it's a non issue.
Get it?

Ah! A TROLL! I'll humor you a little. I'll start by quoting myself:
"1. Ability to access ALL save game data.
2. Realtime memory access.
3. Ability to run games off HDD which is much faster."
Piracy huh? You're a joke.

That is certainly YOUR opinion. Not mine and not one shared by countless people.
If you don't care about it then good for you. Let me guess, only YOU are worthy of an opinion? Get real.

in conclusion, youre dumb

I never said you couldn't have your own opinion. In fact I clearly stated as much in the very post you just replied to. Gees, can you not read or what? However, having your opinion means you STFU about other peoples opinion. Acting like a tool on the internet wont get you anywhere.
"in conclusion, youre dumb"
Thank you for proving exactly the kind of person you are. For the most part, worthless.

They are what they are. Why in hell would I continue to argue with you about anything else? You've made it every clear that you simply say NO to anything you read.
Piss off troll.

For emulation I have a PC. You lose more than you gain with a hacked PS3.

That is flat out false.
1. Ability to access ALL save game data.
2. Realtime memory access.
3. Ability to run games off HDD which is much faster.
The list goes on...

You also need to read my post again:
"nothing worth upgrading my hackable PS3"
My HACKABLE PS3. Did I say anything about my $100 ebay special that is updated?
Try using your head.

"Access ALL save data" - PS+ and online backup. Yes, it works for ALL data.
"Realtime memory access" - No gamer has any real use for that. The only gaming use for such a pseudo-feature is to use cheat devices. These days if you need a GameShark you can kindly stop calling yourself a gamer.
"Ability to run games off HDD which is much faster" - You're right. I'd happily go to the trouble of losing PSN access, compatibility with future titles and potentially get raped by Sony JUST because I cannot wait an extra seven seconds.
Your PS3 is hackable? Congratulations ; you're missing out on the best PS3 has to offer.
There are NO benefits whatsoever to the vast majority of PS3 gamers regarding CFW. Defend it with your bad points all you want; there's a reason almost noone is interested.

Ha! That's rich. Who was talking about average gamers? Clearly you missed MY point seeing as how this is my thread.
You have to pay for PS+
"No gamer has any real use for that. "
You are wrong.
"I'd happily go to the trouble of losing PSN access"
Who lost PSN access? Not me.
Clearly you are LOST.

why is he wrong?

Seriously? You aren't capable of using your brain and figuring it out? DOH! Look who I'm talking to.
Ok I'll explain it as simply as possible.
Gamers all around the world that in fact are REAL GAMERS use such features.
Gee, that was hard.

No they don't. I've come across a single game that's forced me to update. But then again, I don't play online.

I HAVE TWO PS3'S.
Can you figure it out now?
Also, the PS3 has MANY main selling points. Just because YOU think that specific one is the most important, doesn't mean everyone else does as well.
Here's a clue for you. Not everyone has their PS3 connected to the internet.
Think you can figure it out now?
The PS3 has MORE local games then online games.
Think you can figure it out now?

i'm not the pushing the online capabilities of the ps3, sony is. i'm pretty sure if it's important to market than it's an important feature.
now the fact of the matter is, having ps3 or any system connected internet gives your system and games more value. it's like having a smartphone and not having data on your phone, it's just dumb.
and i know that there are more local games out there, but i also know that dlc makes millions of deniro, so, more local titles probably have a online feature, mathematically speaking
in conclusion, youre dumb

Your ASSumption is your problem.
"i'm pretty sure if it's important to market than it's an important feature."
I never said it wasn't important. I did however claim it was not the MOST important.
"and i know that there are more local games out there,"
Good. Glad we cleared that up. Therefore internet is not the MOST important.
"in conclusion, youre dumb"
That pretty much sums you up in general. Nothing but a hot headed kid on the internet. Gee, that never happens! Pretty worthless.

i never said online was the most important feature. i said it was one main selling point...and you're the one saying people don't know how to read..
i also like how you take what i said but choose not to post the main point of the comment. could it be cause i was right? hmmmm...
youre so dumb.
Reply
"i never said online was the most important feature. i said it was one main selling point..."
Those two statements are the same thing. Also, you are wrong. Playing games online is not the main selling point. So you fail either way.
"youre so dumb."
You continue to prove yourself a troll with every post. Not to mention showing us all how much of a childish fool you are.

Hopefully, the scene will become more like the PSP scene, which was great(it was limited by the hardware though).
Also, even if you lose more currently on "hacked" PS3s, what you lose on official firmware is your rights(right to own, right to sue for all/any reasons, etc.)

Also, they recently raised the PSN trophy level that was capped at level 50(1%). So maybe this firmware has something to do with it.
Oh yea, PS+'s automatic download feature downloads and installs updates automatically. So since it's obviously such a huge issue to you it may be worth the investment of $50 for a year.

I updated my ps3 and I regret doing so because the updates that sony send out compared to the ones available through homebrew are simply not worth it.

Piracy indeed.
"Oh, but wait!" I hear you say, "I use legitimate--" Shut up. That's everyone's excuse, and NOBODY goes to such effort hacking their PS3, losing PSN and future game compatibility Just so they can load games a few seconds faster. You're a pirate, plain and simple. No point hiding it.
tl;dr, fuck off.
Reply
Try people with TWO PS3's.
It's also a hell of a lot faster then a few seconds.
You know, it helps to know WTF you are talking about before you open your mouth.
"fuck off"
Take your own advice!
