One of These Things Is Just Like The Other: Exclusive Duplicates

If you are looking for the biggest reason exclusive games don't matter as much to gamers, why don't you look a little bit deeper into each system's exclusive library for inspiration? In many cases the way the industry is designed, for every exclusive that's out there the competition has to create its own game that is somewhat similar in style to make sure that their customers don't jump ship for the other guys. I know some of the things that I am about to say will anger the fanboys in droves, but let me stress that I am just talking in generalities before I begin my breakdown.

Nathan Hale Master Chief

For  the gamer that likes alien-filled shooters like Halo, check out the Resistance trilogy on PS3. Both games offer the same basic mechanics and online play so you shouldn't be missing Master Chief too much. Even if shooters aren't your favorite, for every Forza fan there is an equally passionate Gran Tourismo fan. Oh and you know those sandbox games that let you create structures like we see in LittleBigPlanet? It looks like Microsoft has dibbs on a little downloadable property known as Minecraft (at least for now anyway.)

Again I am speaking in generalities here, and you will notice that I haven't talked much about Nintendo. That's because for them exclusives are their life blood in a way. Still if you're talking the other two there is a strong sense that exclusive games don't really matter. Thanks to our friends over at IGN for inspiring this! What do you think? Do you buy consoles based on exclusive properties? Let me know in the comments below!

Doesn't really matter huh? Tell that to anyone who's ever bought a Nintendo system for a Nintendo exclusive.

You realize that on the last page he made an exemption for Nintendo right?

I was suppose to last though 5 pages of that nonsense?

Also, it's a pretty stupid point someone is trying to make when you omit 1/3 of the industry.

The Kia Rio is the top selling car of all time!!! Omitting anyone who makes a truck and anyone who isn't from Korea.

Of course. I feel like everybody should read the majority of the story before making a comment.

Exclusives do matter to Nintendo but I kind of don't consider them a "hardcore" competitor. They're there but they kind of do their own thing. They really don't compete as much with the other two.

Nintendo sells consoles. You are either talking about consoles or not. Out of the three of them Nintendo has been in this business the longest. That alone makes them the most hardcore of all of them.

Exclusives matter, in my opinion, and possibly as a fact.

They generally use the system's hardware better, and often have unique features because of that utilization of the hardware.

It would be nice if there were no console/PC exclusives(one console), but games of late have gotten stale and exclusives are the last bastion(beside indie games) of uniqueness in video games.

That is a joke, killzone has way better gameplay and graphics over halo and a better story to it as well.

But the basic gameplay elements are the same. One game could possibly be better in your mind but is the difference really that big in general? I personally don't think so.

This is silly, exclusives are (normally) the most optimized games. They don't have to dumb down to the common denominator just to sort of function on every single system; instead, they take full advantage. Look at Metal Gear Solid 4. Then compare it with a multiplatform game. Not to include the increase in resources from developing solely on one platform.. There's a reason Nintendo first party games are so amazing.

I don't know who write these articles. These two weeks there have been lots of articles saying the same thing. The fact is that back in the days exclusive where the life of the console look at ps2 for example. Nowadays since there is not that monopoly by anywyas they might seem less important to some because they are all the time playing COD and games like those which if you took out or made the multiplayer aspect payable those games would become nothing.

The second reason why most people are saying exclusives are not that important is due to the big influence of xbox and PC on the industry both of which do not have many exclusive although they have very very good ones like Halo and Gears of War. But than again those games are not diversifying like other exclusives which nintendo and playstation have.

It's a pity people are starting to look at exclusives in this manner because studios who work for exclusive material are usually the very best and most innovative and they are the ones who dare to take risks in something new or different and the ones who set standards.

Maybe it does depend on the consumer, but I certainly don't see as much of a need for it. Even you guys that say exclusives are unique you should ptobably take a look at the last pge. In my opinion a lot of exclusives aren't totally different fro what you find on other systems.
