Rocksmith, the Authentic Guitar music game that was quietly released.

Ó

You are forgiven for thinking Guitar Hero and Rock Band had killed the music game genre forever.

With incessant updates, new games every month or so that have Coldplay or Aerosmith attached to them for another $50 price tag, it was almost too much to handle.

Rocksmith is different, and maybe that is why Ubisoft did not release the game to a large amount of fanfare.

Rocksmith is the only music game that gives you the ability to plug your own guitar in and use it as the controller. No more green, yellow, yellow, red blue? I'm hooked!

Rocksmith actually helps you learn to play the guitar, from beginner to music professional.

It was natural that the evolution of music making titles should reach a stage where real instruments could be used, but the gameplay is where Rocksmith actually looks at changing the face of genre (thankfully!).

Instead of simply strumming along with not much purpose, you are actually encouraged to play notes from the available song library. The better you get, the more you are able to play from the song.

With a special cable that connects your Guitar pickup into the Xbox, PS3 or PC, your guitar is helpfully tuned by Rocksmith and you are ready to go.

The game incorporates single notes all the way to the complex guitar chord progressions that are actually played in the song.

There are no fancy interfaces, screaming crowds or flashy achievements to unlock in Rocksmith, and this is actually a good thing!

Ubisoft have concentrated their efforts on making a music game that actually teaches you how to play guitar from the ground up. Almost any guitar (electric or acoustic) can be used.

Naturally there is a music store where you can download new tracks that are incorporated into the library by Ubisoft, but they are committed to only including tracks that make 'sense' for game (lets hope that continues).

Rocksmith is available now for the PS3 and Xbox360 and will be available by Christmas for the PC.

For more details on Rocksmith, head over to the Ubisoft Facebook page.

I personally don't understand why this idea hasn't been done before.

Rock band 3 did the exact same thing... in 2010. It's called pro mode. The only difference is that with rock band you need a specific guitar specially made for the game. Why? because of strumming delay (which, yes, is something ubisoft just ignored)

Also, there's one game too much in this phrase "You are forgiven for thinking Guitar Hero and Rock Band had killed the music game genre forever." guess which.

I don't seem to have any delay. The only time i see it is when i'm playing the arcade mode. this game motivates me to play my guitar more often so i can't complain.

i have absolutely NO SKILLS on my own stringed piece of wood, i bought it just because i'm that much of a dreamer, but this seems to be the best reason to actually start learning something after 2-3 years of owning that instrument.
previous games always seemd low to me since they didn't got anything from really playing guitar.
now i wonder if it will be possible to play rocksmith wit controller/keyboard :)

really?
RB3 pro mode is just another way to sell toy guitare even if the pro guitare seem really cool and all they still are toys.
in rock smith you play a REAL guitare so NO, RB3 didn't include this in its Pro mode.
A game that help people learn a REAL abality on a REAL instrument is in fact cool and trendy...

Promode guitars are REAL guitars, with built in hardware to detect which notes you are playing. You can also play easy to expert with it IIRC, but promode is 1:1 with the original song.
Do a little research before you post...

lol, d00d, you should try to play a real guitar with the things you learned from "pro mode" :D

Nothing to be even nearly comparable to a real instrument. Stop talking about making music if you have never made something like "real" music yourself :)
If you can fly an airplane in a Simulator with some kind of super-joystick that doesn't mean that you can fly a real airplane :)

God dammit, the sheer ignorance that plagues the genre is what killed it:
YES, pro mode can be played with a real guitar. YES, that means a guitar with strings and all. YES, you can play that guitar outside the game. because. it's. a real. guitar.

Also, 1:1 charting means you're actually playing the songs..

Look 'd00d', I learnt how to basically play the drums with RB3 pro mode. Today, I'm still learning new techniques and sh*t as well as improving my stamina.
My mate who plays real guitar swears by RB3 Pro mode (Not the buttoned one, the stringed pro guitar is the way to go)
Don't you dare try and start an argument with me over RB3.

# Whats up with the cable?TPot 2011-10-26 06:07
Saw this quote:
revolutionary 1/4 inch to USB cable

However, I have had a cable that fits that description to hook the guitar up to the computer for ages... is this any different?

Pretty sure there is a more advanced technology than an analog to digital signal converter that you have.

This technology detects which string is being hit and at what fret...

Obviously u can hit the fret 5 notes down and one string up and it would still count as the same string and fret you were supposed to hit. 8) well except for the 4th and 5th

Not to mention downtunings and open tunings. Pick-up selection and string gauge...

But there is also a noticeable difference in tone when playing on the higher frets instead of going down a string.

Depending on how I want a riff to sound , which is usually not twangy, I will play higher up on the neck to get a more full sound.
