PS3We've been picking up discussions on the PS3's perks and quirks from here to the wazoos, and given just how scattered and yet closely linked all these discussion are, we thought it was about time we slapped them all together into one easy-to-read list, and then some.

Courtesy of Gamebrink, we give you the top 10 small-yet-handy perks for the PS3 system. Consider this as a way of balancing out the more recent probs with the PS3, like the reverse-compatibility issues, or the Ridge Racer 7graphics glitches.

1. Removable faceplate: For dudes out to personalize their system, this means you can either slap on your own custom-made faceplates. For the OC neat freaks, this means you can take them off habitually to clean 'em or polish off all those unsightly scratches.

2. Touch-button: The PS3's external controls are all touch-button, like the stuff you'll see on most elevators, making for an easier access and handling.

3. Easy Hard Drive Partitioning: Not only does the PS3 run on the relatively open-sourced Linux OS, but the system menu allows for easy swapping between that and other OS for the HD.

4. User-friendly friends list: The Xbox 360 may have this option too, but the PS3's perk here is that its friend list interface is easier to maintain and customize.

5. Auto-Complete Dynamic Dictionary: Sony's web browser comes with a Dictionary for its Auto-Complete feature - handy for guys inclined to do a lot of surfing with this console. You can also opt to add new words to the dictionary (Define: LMAO, roxxorz...).

6. Linux = Freebie: Sony's providing the OS for free this time around, and since it's a Linux, expect updates and the like to come easier for Dl'ing...reminds us of the PSP.

7. Hard Drive swapping made easy: Upgrading or swapping out hard drives is just a simple matter of find a properly shaped HD, and slapping it on the corresponding PS3 slot. Think cartridges.

8. Fast startup: Faster startup time = less waiting, more gaming.

9. Virtual PS2 & PS1 Memory Cards: Remember all those annoying probs you got with the PS2/PS2 memory cards? The PS3 allows you to create Virtual Memory cards for either model in the Hard Disk. Less hassles, and cheaper.

10. It's quiet: Compared to its rival, the Xbox 360, the PS3's a silent-running machine, with barely a whimper out of it as it plays.

We are really sorry that you didnt get your PS3 at 11.11 or 11.17 launches. Too bad, it is worth it.

So, meanwhile I play with my new and shiny PS3 and you can cry in the corner =)

» So what?

Microsfot copied everything from apple and who cares? Apple is still much better, Microsoft is a Piece os s... . I believe the only thing Microsoft has done well is the Xbox, but still the ps3 is a pretty cool machine.

» theres more

For 8 it is faster, Between the time I touch the button and the moment it gets into the game intro, is like 22 seconds.

For 10, theres no denying the PS3 is much quieter. Its not an opionion, its a fact. The Xbox360 can be heard across a room, the PS3 cant be heard from 10 feet away, Why? Because the PS3 went the better route in using one large fan over two small fans. Larger fan means slower RPM to move the same amount of air.

11. Standard Wireless Controllers

12. Free Online Gaming

13. 98% Backwards Compatability

Wait a minute. the article insists that PS3 runs on linux and has it built in as firmware but I thought this was just early speculation that has long been proven wrong after we found out that linux comes on a separate CD not provided by Sony. I always thought that Sony used their own native OS and linux is just something extra that the user can use if they want.

Do people still touch their console to turn it on ? I use my controller ...wish it had a change game option though

I can't hear my 360 at the XMB (unless I REALLY try), but I will not deny it turns into a jet engine anytime it uses the DVD, but I only hear that for 5-10 secs until the 5.1 kicks in.

I really like the HDD swapability and the promise that linux has....still I have a PC for that so it's really hard to justify.

Really it can only grab me with PSP functionality, as it's the only thing that can offer some original functions. and I have 2 PSP's so it would be nice....

okay firstly dont associate the psp to the ps3... cause the psp was actually very good compared to the ds... secondly the ps3 looks like a f.u.c.king tin can? what the hell why would i want a giant freakin tin can... thirdly blu ray wtf? its crap they use old dvd compression hd dvd use xvid compression better quality motherf.u.c.k.e.r.s !!! fourthly (if it exsists) the wii and X360 are the best of both worlds why taint it with expensive asian crap that looks like giant toy robot from a crappy anime... gosh any minute now the ps3 will turn into a car or sumthing! why doesnt it turn itself into something usefull like a doorstop, oh wait mine already is

» wow

maybe you guys forgot about the whole microsoft+compu ters? thats why the xbox and 360 are good because of microsofts experience.

r35, I assume you own the PSP because you say it is a good device. I also assume that you dont own the PS3 because of the opposite.

Read about the codec the Blu-ray can use, before you start spitting stuff that is untrue. Both blu-ray and hd-dvd use the same codecs.

I am really really sorry you cant afford to have the PS3. The best part is, that I dont have to listen to you whine in multiplayer games. Instead I only have to read you crying around forums.

You do know that Nintendo is also asian crap? Hell, I think Microsoft has X360's made in Asia! Wow! Wowoweeewee!!

Stop shooting holes in your own arguments.

» HA are you kidding?

Microsoft has been losing thousands of users every single day because the software is soo insecure.

How many times daily does a Microsoft Server get hacked, how many users per hour get infected with viruses that exploit the flaws in Windows.

Microsoft is losing ground to Linux every single day because of 2 major factors.

Price and Security.

Nothing beats Free. Linux is by far the best OS for the money, well acually if money isnt an issue, Unix is.

How many Fortune 500 companies use Linux servers? How much does Linux cost them? Absolutly nothing.
