Yup, Another Live-Action Trailer

The live-action trailer has long been a tradition in the world of video games, but it sure as hell seems like it’s becoming a more popular way to advertise a game now than it was before. Assassin’s Creed, Skyrim, Borderlands, Halo….all of these games have received live-action trailers, and that’s just me listing the ones I can remember. It’s kind of the thing to do now.

So this newest one, for Black Ops II, isn’t an anomaly. But it is pretty good, and it is about Black Ops II:

I think most people would agree that Call of Duty’s “There’s a soldier in all of us” ad campaign is a cool spin, but also that it worked a lot better the first few times around. Now it seems like Activision is just falling back into a proven strategy rather than attempting to do anything innovative.

Wait…were we talking about the ads or the games?

Funny how easy it is to tell a Todd B. post from just the first sentence on the homepage.

I wonder if there is anything he DOESN'T hate.

Even though it had Robert Downey Jr.(Iron Man) and a couple of other noticeable people, this trailer still felt...meh.

Although, I did like a couple parts of it.

It will still sell millions but who cares, we shouldn't complain. After all, people waste a lot of money on stupid things that barely change -cough- apple products.

You should care, very much so.

Its high sales affect other game developers/publishers, causing them to copy their game in order to create the same amount of money.

This leads the unique and fun game series to becoming horrid and hollow shells forcibly mixed with the action/shooter genres.

It affects all of us gamers, believe it or not.

They've changed more of this game than they've kept the same so why are you still complaining about it being the same. The Battlefield series hasn't changed in 10 years but nobody talks about that. Adding destructible buildings is the only thing worth noting that Battlefield does right. And what about Halo, all they've done is make the multi-player worse with each new game, it was at it's peak with Halo 2. And don't get me started on Medal of Honor, the supposed COD killer that is now the worst FPS on the market. Guess that's what happens when you try to copy COD but don't know what you're doing.

Who complained that it was the same?

I'm just saying that this game series(as well as Battlefield) is influencing other companies.

Anyway, if you don't believe me, here is some examples of the series that CoD is influencing already.

Halo
Resident Evil
Mass Effect
Battlefield
Syndicate
Call of Duty(yes, even itself has been affected)

If it wasn't for Apple and the iPhone you would still be using flip phones and Blackberries. Just like COD, it's hard to make the best thing out there better without any real competition.
