The PlayStation 3 version of Mortal Kombat will come with full support for the console's sterescopic 3D feature. That's good news for those who already have a 3D-capable TV and 3D glasses, but what if you only have one pair of glasses and then you want to invite a friend over for a match?
The fighting series' creator, Ed Boon, says you won't have to play Mortal Kombat in 2D just so both of you can see what's going on on-screen. Whoever has the glasses will see all the action in 3D while the one without them will still be able to play the game just fine.

According to Boon, enabling the 3D mode in Mortal Kombat just helps those with 3D glasses see the characters pop out more from the background. Those without the needed specs will still see the characters in crisp detail since they're being rendered in 2D, although the background will end up being a bit blurrier compared to playing in 2D mode.
"We didn't want 3D to change the basic mechanics or complicate things needlessly" he said, adding, "Our 3D implementation makes the characters pop from the background a little more, helps you focus on them."
Mortal Kombat bursts forth onto PS3 and Xbox 360 on April 19 in North America and April 21 in Europe. There's also a timed PS3 exclusive demo coming. PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to download the Mortal Kombat demo starting March 8 while non-PS Plus members will gain access to it starting March 15.
