Yo Ho Ho and a Severed Head in a Bag |

We like to romanticize the Golden Age of Piracy, but the reality of those time was a lot more dark and brutal than we like to imagine. And that's the tack that Octane Games and TopWare Interactive are taking in Raven's Cry. Their entire goal is to take Johnny Depp's Pirates of the Caribbean movies and turn 'em on their head.
The release they put out along with the trailer below reads, "We're about to crack history wide open and retell the Caribbean's darkest chapter with an authenticity unseen in today's Hollywood films, showing this period of vengeance, violence, and greed unchained through a more honest, blood-spattered lens than ever before. The way of the pirate will rise again."
The game's protagonist is Christopher Raven (hence the name of the game), a man troubled by inner demons and dead-set on getting revenge on the men who murdered his family. As you can see in the trailer, this path will see him sailing around the 17th-century Caribbean and seeing hints of rape and not-so-subtle hints of the chopping of heads, people burning alive, and people getting all stabby.
There's no release date attached yet, and the footage below looks to be unfinished - I hope, anyway.
