Yep, Junction Point is Gone

Another Austin studio has officially bitten the dust, as Epic Mickey creator Junction Point has been closed down by Disney. All employees were let go, along with 50 more from other studios and locations. Seems like we can’t go a week without losing a studio nowadays.

Here’s Disney Interactive’s John Pleasants from the message sent to staffers:

“Our division operates in a rapidly evolving industry and as a result we must sometimes make difficult decisions to ensure we’re meeting market demands. Unfortunately, today this meant announcing changes within Disney Interactive Games, including the closure of Junction Point Studios in Austin.”

So that’s that. Another innovative and solid studio with its windows bricked up. Epic Mickey 2 sold around 530,000 copies at last glance, so maybe it just wasn’t a big enough hit. Sad story.

Did you play any Epic Mickey games? Will you miss Junction Point?

No, Epic Mickey 1 was alright. Whenever I first saw concept art for it, I thought it might be a really dark story casting Oswald as the main character and anti-hero going against Mickey. Then I saw that it was getting made directly by Disney and lost all interest. The game was bad and the plot/theme was bad too.
