Woman Tries To Steal PS3 Games

A 23 year old woman, Tabatha Edington, was arrested and was sent to jail for attempting to rob a store of 9 Playstation 3 games. The alarms didn't go off nor was she caught outside the store with the goods, but instead was seen taking games off the shelves and wrapping them in foil, which employees and the police assume was an attempt to bypass the security detectors at the entrance.

The store manager noticed her wrapping the games in shiny foil and putting them in a paper bag in her shopping cart, and got a little suspicious. Righteously so, as when the police tried to escort her to the store office, she yelled and put up a bit of a fight, before cops found a kitchen knife in her bag. Ouch.

As she had no means to pay for the goods, the police deemed her crime ‘burglary’, but I don’t see how. In my eyes it’s straight up shoplifting. They say she was booked for ‘one count of burglary since she had no means to pay’.

I guess one could say her plans of shoplifting were ‘FOILED’?*

Shoplifting/burglary happens every day.
What's the thing here that makes this story worth calling "news"?

Type of robbery. If someone tried to rob a liquor store with a rubber chicken and succeeded than it would be in the local news, but if it was a gun then no one would care.

Huh?

Anyway, your argument against shoplifting is void. There is no such thing as shoplifting when it's comes to the law. The term is used only to describe that the crime happened at a business and not from a person. So she was charged with burglary which is INTENT TO STEAL. No actual theft needs to have happened.

There seems to be something missing here, what about the fact that she was carrying a knife?

In England she would've been done for carrying the knife as well as Shoplifting.

Also, if you see the spelling mistakes are you not clever enough to work out what they where trying to type. Just ever so easy to work it out.

Maybee they couldn't be bothered or was quick enough, then again maybe they just wanted to post it quick and made some small errors hoping no one would comment. QJ.net is full of news and they can't spell check everything. (It does get very tiering)
