Was California State Senator Leland Yee too harsh when said that gamers need to “quiet down” last week?  He probably doesn’t think so, but his office responded to comments to his words for some much-needed damage control.

In case you missed it, California Senator Leland Yee spoke out last week about violence in video games and how it affects real life.  He was quite blunt with his opinion, saying: “Gamers have got to just quiet down. Gamers have no credibility in this argument. This is all about their lust for violence and the industry’s lust for money. This is a billion-dollar industry. This is about their self-interest.”

IGN wrote to Yee’s office with the hopes of getting a response, and they got one from Adam Keigwin, the senator’s chief-of-staff.  Regarding Yee’s comments, Keigwin said, “It wasn’t the most artful thing he ever said.”  He also noted that Yee’s comments were not aimed at individual gamers, but at the gaming industry as a whole.  Keigwin even admitted that he enjoys video games himself on occasion, just like other staffers in the senator’s office, and that Yee’s children play video games as well.

ill say it again...IM GROWN I KNOW WHAT IS REAL AN WHATS NOT REAL. i cant fly i cant use health packs i cant reset my day. there are more people that know this vs people who are just crazy. stopping video game companies from making there games isnt going to stop violence. violence been here way before movies guns video games.all of this can cause more harm than actually helping the situation.

all these game companies followed all the rules. if a parent decides they want to buy there kids these games or let them watch movies thats not PG thats on that parent. between 1975 to 1999 we had all kinds of violence movies worse than what they are know including gangster rap for starters.

what are we doing to stop them from taken are rights. what are we going to do let then control what we watch eat play how we sleep drive talk wtf. WEAK MIND VS I KNOW BETTER...all im saying is we all have a voice in this matter us it. WHO IS THIS GUY YEE ANYWAYS Wii U SPOKESMAN IS YEE TRYING TO HELP Wii U SALES?

Its sad that they think video games are the cause of any violence. Any logical person knows a video game is fake and in no way should any actions in them be carried out. If they do not think that way they either cannot think logically or have been brought up to do otherwise. Even if video games were to desensitize people anymore than movies and television already do then it still would not be possible to create this violence in real life if there were no guns to have or use in the first place.
