Watch This: Blur 2 was Almost a Thing |
Listed in: News Tags: Activision, Bizarre Creations, blur, chris davies, games that never were, watch this
A few years ago, Bizarre Creations released a somewhat realistic racing game with kart-style power-ups into the world in the hopes of shaking the genre up a bit. The game was Blur, and while it didn’t perform as well as Activision or Bizarre may have hoped, the game did manage to secure a strong cult following (online lobbies are mostly full to this day).

According to former Bizarre dev Chris Davies, work had begun on a follow-up to Blur at Bizarre, but the studio was unfortunately shuttered by Activision before the game could be released. Luckily he salvaged a couple of videos of what the team had built so far. I can’t find a way to embed them since they're uploaded directly to Tumblr, so here are links to the posts on his blog:
Honestly, Blur never clicked with me. The power-ups didn’t feel particularly interesting and the arcade racing was a bit sloppy (for me, anyway). That being said, I’m certain a fair few gamers out there would have loved to see a Blur 2, and the video teases linked above piqued my curiosity despite not enjoying the first game.
All we can do now, of course, is speculate. Or start a Kickstarter! Or cry. Whatever works best for you.
