Violent Games To Get Taxed?

Oklahoma state representative William Fourkiller (cool surname) has come strollin’ in with a new legislation that will see taxes on the sale of all violent video games by 1%.

The raised taxes would be based on the game’s ESRB rating. What rating in particular? That’s the worrying part; any game that’s got an ESRB rating of Teen, Mature or Adult Only.

Teen. What the hell does that have to do with violence? Many games are rated teen that most people in their right mind wouldn't consider violent at all. Guitar Hero?

The legislation doesn't seem to care. However, the taxes would be split into two and sent two ways; the Childhood Outdoor Education Revolving Fund and to the Bullying Prevention Revolving Fund. Both of those groups would be created as a part of the legislation.

Should the bill get passed, it would go into effect on July 1^st this year. Pretty darn soon.

I do like the idea of mass micropayments going to support anti-bullying, but I don’t like to look or sound of this. Do you think it could start a slippery slope into a bad direction?

Im actually alright with this, with one condition. There are many other things that will need to be covered buy this tax including...

All movies rated pg-13 and up must be subject to this tax.

All books containing violence, sexual content or other socially inappropriate material must be subject to this tax.

All cable TV subscriptions must be subject to this tax.

Any music with explicit lyrics must be subject to this tax.

Im sure there are more examples of media that cause 'problems' in society *commercials anyone?* this is just the starting list of things that must be included for this tax to even be considered.

I'm with you on this. The Constitution states that any taxation must apply to everyone. Then again there is the matter of Freedom of Speech. So I say screw this tax and the whiny a$$ liberal democrat that came up with the idea. Before anyone attacks me for my comment, I don't like whiny a$$ republicans either.

This is nothing but a stealth tax, it's really no different to the Taxman in the UK reaching up through your arse to retrieve the entire contents of the wallet of anyone who Smokes, drinks or drives and then justifying it by saying these things are all bad so we actually doing you a favour.

I watched this on my news channel, the people the news interviewed didnt like it and pissed off old people saying kids are lazy. My opinion is that the parents should make their kid play outside and have friends in the real world. When i grew up i had a game system in every room but my mom made me play outside, keeping me in shape.

First SOPA, now this.

Soon you wont be able to get video games because they'll be either to expensive or just not allowed to be made.

In all my years of playing video games (& buying them) I don't think I have come across any that doesn't have any violence in.

The only thing they should be doing is teaching the kids at school and/or teaching the parents about the different video games. It's their own fault, if your kid saw something and decided to try it from a cartoon or video game, he/she shouldn't be watching or playing anything.

How many more stupid people are going to be thick headed, and not work things out for themseelves.

I know a lot of states have sales tax so you may be used to it, but here in Alaska we pay the price on the fncking tag! No way should the fed had the right to levy additional taxes!
