Unreal Engine Final Fantasy VII |

Some dedicated fans of Final Fantasy VII over in Spain took it upon themselves to remake the intro to the game using the Unreal Engine. This isn’t the first time the intro was remade with new tech, as the scene was also used for a PS3 tech demo, but this goes a small step further and is playable.
Seeing Midgar’s train station in first person is interesting to say the least, and is available to download from the maker’s website here.

You can watch the Youtube video here.
The site states that “the idea is to show its 2D world in 3D in a short demo, trying to keep it as accurate and respectful as possible to the original”, so it’s unlikely that they will continue to remake more of the game.
After today’s talk from Final Fantasy VII director Yoshinori Kitase, where he stated his views on revamping the game, this project comes at an interesting time. Hype for a remake ceases to die, despite Square Enix having a lot on their hands with Final Fantasy games at the moment.
Do you think they will ever take on the task and give in to fans demands?

Now can all of you who want a remake say that the same system that VII used would hold up? That turn based system? I highly doubt anyone in the current generation would be as happy about it. FFXII and XIII had some serious changes and I hated XII and couldn't get past am hour of XIII because it was boring.
I mean the materia mechanic needs to stay intact but several changes need to be made. And like someone else said here they would have to create everything in full 3D or use the FFX way which was almost full 3D. I'd also want an overworld where I could use an airship cuz X's way about it wasn't so awesome.
I know for a fact that such a gameplay system would not hold up in this day and age. It would get horrible reviews and the only ones who would buy it would be those going for nostalgia and even then if the game had a full price point of $60 then most of those guys would complain "I'm not paying that much for a remake of a game".
It doesn't make sense for a company to lose money on a game that many want, few would enjoy, and new people would not appreciate. Simple as that.
They would only make a profit on making new stuff based on the original FFVII like the movie advent children, which I thought was crap overall and just a major fan service but I loved all the action scenes, or games like crisis core, a game which had to have a very different gameplay system from what it was based on.

I understand these Spanish guys are uberfans of FF7 but.. after watching the battle scene, they either need more practice in 3D animations and sound timing or they need to stop this endeavour dood!

This is the very reason why Square Enix doesn't want to remake FF7. Because no matter what Square does fans will still bitch about it. And lose more money than gain of it. What gamers fail to understand is the remake game of FF7 will be to expansive to make. They would have to stop there other projects and have the other team join the team that is remaking FF7 focus on just that one game.
The reason is because most of the game is not even 3D world. The towns dungeons etc is a picture by picture like Resident Evil. So is FF8 & 9. They will have to make the almost everything of the game all over again into a 3D world. That statement came from the guys who where making FF13 at the time.
This is the reason why they are remastering FF10 over FF7, 8 & 9. The 3D world of FF10 is already there. They won't have to have all the team to make FF10. Unlike FF7 that the only 3D it had was the Chocobo Racing, Snowboard, the world map and the battle system. That can be upgraded with out spending as much of the focus for there team. However the rest of the game is not even in 3D world. So there goes the idea of just being a small team to remake FF7.
Square did said that they want to make one more spin off of FF7.

I hope they remake the game dood, just not this generation or... decade...

Also the battles aren't in 1st person so I don't see why you're complaining...
I think that it would be great to see the details of things in the game close up from the characters point of view.

and to all the idiots saying its crap?
you seem to not understand the idea of the project, it was not accuracy or anything,
but simply to display what the ff7 world would look like in 3D, i think i read on their website that they have no intentions of actually makeing the game and that this was just a learning project for them.
all they have done is show people what it would be like in 3D, it didnt have to be accurate or good animations, or even have any sort of significant gameplay, it did what it was suppose to, im sure if it where to continue to be developed to a full game(doubtful) that all issues would be corrected, it was only a demo, an idea, nothing more
