Game Group, the company behind the UK’s massive Game retail chain, has been in dire financial straits for some time now. Game Group has been struggling to regain its market position and turn the tides, but so far, things aren’t looking too hot. The company has already lost Nintendo support due to financial woes, and it looks like EA is next in line.

In a memo to employees, the company explained that it held negotiations with a number of distributors in the interest of protecting its business. In the meeting, Game Group explained to its industry partners that it was having a few problems, and needed more manageable credit terms while the company worked through its issues. Apparently, EA didn’t agree.

This means that after SSX comes out on Friday, no new EA games will hit Game store shelves—including Mass Effect 3. Players who pre-ordered ME3 at Game will be given £5 extra for their trouble. No word on how this affects players who pre-ordered the very limited Collector’s Edition.

In recent weeks, Game has missed The Last Story, Tekken 3D Prime Edition and all of Ubisoft’s Vita launch games. It’s sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy—Game’s sales tank, so it can’t get new games. It doesn’t have new games, so it’s sales continue to tank. Any way you cut it, Game is in a tough spot.

Do you think losing EA will be the final straw in Game’s collapse?

I remember Game said they might not even be getting the MGS HD collection or Soul Calibur V.
I always thought they were doing well.

As someone who pre-ordered a CE, I would be absolutely pissed. And not in the UK sense of the word.

I ended up ordering it from amazon and using the points on my game card and the $5 they "gave" us to put £10 on my psn before they go completely bust. Atleast if the whole GAME group goes under (GAME and Gamestation) then there will be less of a monopoly on game stores in the UK.

This also must be a massive cash in moment for play, amazon etc. too. Bet they are loving this :P

Game Group exists i multiple countries are they also effected by this? Or is it just the UK stores that are effected? as I have pre-orderd my copy of the game from them (I live in Sweden) but I haven't received any messages from them saying that it has been canceled. And you can still pre-order the game from their Swedish website

Does this affect Gamestation? I got friends who work there, that game would really bring a lot of people in.

Yeah the Game Group own GameStation and GAME and GameStation preorders have also been canceled.

Its unfortunate that people will loose their liveliehoods because of some insanely rich arses with no forsight, that get to keep their money. Meanwhile the common rable suffer.

Game have sucked monkey balls for a long time, lets hope they finally get their euthenasia shot, to put them out of their misery :D
Every time I walk past their shop there's normally no-one in or just 1-2 people browsing, maybe its their PSV prices all being RRP still ?! doh!
