Twisted Metal gets delayed and censored in Europe |

Europe, looks like you can't take it. You can't take some cars blowing up, flipping around or running into things...at least not till March. The European release of the upcoming car combat game, Twisted Metal has been pushed back to March because of localization issues. Apparently it's not the usual fix of adding words here and there but the European Version to be less...let's just say stereotypical for the world tour edition.
David Jaffe said on his blog that 99% of the material cut from the game's cutscenes was at the will of the Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe's supervision. Jaffe only mentioned one major change that is the 'Meat Wagon' which is a vehicle's special attack, which caused screamingly, terminally-ill patients being shot out of a car on rocket-propelled gurney loaded with TNT at opposing players....this has been modified from the occupant being terminally-ill or going to die to completely dead. At least they didn't go the zombie route.
Jaffe said very openly and in his usual sweary way that "You think I wanted to change content? Fuck no - for a bunch of reasons 'fuck no'. But it ain't my game and certain countries have - obviously - much stricter guidelines AND since [Twisted Metal] has never been a big seller outside of America, I guess it didn't make sense to have whole bunch of different discs for each country." Jaffe concluded his statement by saying that Sony has let him know the US release date of February 14th remains unchanged and that Europe will hopefully get March 1st.
I think Jaffe is a smart business man to take Sony's words on board and while some critics have lashed out against his brash and harsh words he has humility and empathy for different countries. At least we know that if the other countries wanted the game in it's original violent, slightly racist format, they could just import it...or play the old games. Remember the level where you blew up Paris and it wasn't Modern Warfare 3?
