Sony's Jack Tretton is dishing out the Nintendo hate once again, this time to their longtime franchises and upcoming home console.

"I think more than ever, this generation of consoles has more product differentiation, and companies have staked out their own ground," Tretton said. "I've always felt that the classic Nintendo franchise was a more casual, young audience, Microsoft was more the shooter audience, and we were always the masses."

"But I think we were all interested in the same things. But you mentioned Vita, and that's clearly our message in the portable space. The big message in the console space was our exclusive big blockbuster titles. And then there's the 3D and [PlayStation] Move," he continued. "It's a very healthy industry, there's room for everybody. We're going after a lot of the same things, but I think consumers get the product differentiation. They kind of gravitate to one brand or another, depending on what their tastes are."

"I didn't see anything about Nintendo's announcement that said 'Oh, we'd better get working on rolling out a new PlayStation here pretty soon.' Our attitude is kind of 'welcome to the party.' If you're looking at being a multimedia entertainment device, if you're looking at high def gaming, that was 2006 for us," Tretton finished.

Firstly, I think that the word 'hate' is totally misplaced and shouldn't be used in this article.

Secondly, I have seen the last paragraph from this article been said three times now on QJ, would you guys mind checking whether stuff has been posted already ?

I thought you were paid journalists, you sound like a broken record, reiterating the same interview over and over again.

The POV articles are further proof at the lack of reporting skills and the constant need to regurgitate the same bullshit they covered the day or two before.

Not to mention the first comment is usually by said "reporters" and can be expected to be the focus of the next shitty POV article.

we now have QJ fanboys who hate anyone speaking against anything bad being pointed out...

and yet you still act like a NEWS site is a forum.... on the first page you have a DISCUSSION topic about "Do we really want more Duke Nukem" and not even half way down the page there is the article talking of Take 2 announcing more Nukem..

This has been a reoccurring thorn in the side of an otherwise great site.... You have forums for this yet you want to make a mess of this place by retreading over the same topics.... isnt that what the comment panel at the bottom of each article is for? apparently not... if you want this to be a forum quit, bullshitting and make it a damn forum already !!

They hardly write their own article, if you look at the bottom of most article there's a link indicating source and this one's from forbes. I

've been with QJ for more than 5-6 years but the lack of improvements in the reporting department is pushing me away. Now with sites like n4g I find qj becoming more redundant to me.

Neither PSP or PS3 failed at all, they're fantastic gaming / media systems, and better than Wii but compared to the games on the NES, NES wins.

remember how sony started off. they where in business with nintendo at one point, nintendo screwed sony over, thus sony creating their own console ps1 - which was a success. then there was ps2 - another success, nintendo kept falling behind. the masses enjoyed their RPG's, Shooters etc. nintendo still falling behind. the ps2 outsold both nintendo and xbox and it is still selling, even in developing countries. this was sony coming back at nintendo, showing them how the gaming industry was won over. sony always had the upper hand and still does. the psp vita is more powerful than the wii and xbox. nintendo has always been low budget. because nintendo doesnt have any other income except gaming industry. so its consoles always sucked. on the other hand sony and microsoft do have other businesses. sony with its long range of hardware line, from tv's to in car entertainments, to god knows wat. sony could always pull out a powerful console. and the ps3 is still powerful - it wouldnt even need an upgrade until another chipset is invented. which isnt NOW. hell even the US Air Force uses sonys ps3 system chips all plugged in together to create a super computer, even they are still carrying out tests with it. that speaks volumes of its enormous power.
anyway nintendo is no threat, never was. they are just getting into the BIG SCENE with its new console. not many hardcore gamers will buy it. cuz thers no need, if they have a ps3 already lol. see its like that. nintendo wii 2 is obsolete. sony and microsoft have already taken the masses. when the wii 2 is released, 2 years later ms and sony will release theirs which will obviously be much more powerful than the wii2. see the pattern here? nintendo always manage to fall behind in their hardware, sony always stays ahead of the game.

Okay you do know the wii outsold both 360 and ps3 lol ps3 is just now making money plus dont forget they started copying nintendo (movie=wii remote with a ball).I had a ps2 it was awesome I loved it still do I also had a wii and currently 360 I would buy a 360 or wii over ps3 any day.

Modern Warfare is outselling most games. Action 52 had 52 games.
Proofing it isn't about how popular something is more about how you like the console.
Plus the Move remote was being worked on in '99, they didn't yet have the technology yet to get out what they wanted until the came up with that ball on the stick.

I wouldnt call Wii U obsolete. Each consoles, have their own games and these games defines the console! When a PS3 comes to mind, you`ll think of Uncharted, Killzone, God of War, etc. When you think of Xbox 360, Halo, Fable,Gears of War, etc. You won`t actually think whats inside the console..

As much as people are freaking out over Tretton stepping on toes... he has a point with the WiiU actually being Nintendo's first step into HD gaming.

Also, Nintendo's first party titles are skewed to younger and casual gamers. That said, games like Mario and Zelda can really be enjoyed whole heartedly by core gamers too... so their games for everyone.

I smell complete stupidity coming from both Tretton, and some of the commenters. Tretton who cares what you think your a goddamn ceo, you don't do anything at all for the industry but stand around and try to look pretty (HINT: Try). Point 2 The Wii was a commercial success as far as units go but its title base reminded me too fondly of the PS2 and the explosionarama of what the hell ever on that system. There are good games and there are bad games for both. My thought is pick the ones you like and unless someone asks for your opinion on something Shut The WILD F*** UP (Tretton and Fanboys{all fanboys}).
