1. Thousands of PS3s confiscated in the Netherlands
2. Injunction explained
3. Sony's statement
The legal battle wages on between Sony and LG, and caught in between are several thousands of PS3 units. The Guardian reports that Dutch police have already seized console units from warehouses, as part of the ongoing injunction related to the case.

So far, the Korean company has already won approval under EU law that will block all imports of PS3 units for ten days. On top of this, authorities have been given the go-signal to seize new units in warehouses. Actually, even those new units that are already installed in homes across the Netherlands may still be confiscated by the authorities, as per the court order.

So why the crackdown in the Netherlands? It's because that is the main entry point of the 100,000 stocks of PS3 units imported monthly to the European region. Customs officials of Rotterdam and Schiphol have also extended the blockade of entries on two shipments made last week. This injunction is most certainly causing a whole lot of damage to Sony's business, but unfortunately, this could also be just the beginning.

And they deserve it! They've become a ridiculously unscrupulous company of late and this attempt on their part to strongarm LGE into licenses or whatever on all products (and not just on the blu-ray tech) is just another example.

Seems like your the idiot, sir.
Your saying it's LGs and the courts fault Sony infringed patents, stealing other company's intellectual property?

If company A sues company B and the police seize property I've payed for as a result, personally I would put the blame on the company doing the suing: they're the ones that called for the injunction so it would their fault that people's ps3's got seized.

But I seriously doubt it would come to that: I can't imagine they'd actually seize bought-and-payed-for units from people's homes. More likely they'd simply make Sony pay a fine or royalties on units sold.

Well, LG is taking away the PS3 because of the patent infringement. Sony is the one to blame, because they are selling a product that has a patent infringement. LG is just doing what it has to do to protect its patent.

Sony is going to have to answer a ton of complains of people who get their console taken away. Its their(sony) product not LG.

They aren't even confiscating PS3's from people who already own them...

They are just confiscating them before they go to retailers...

# SONY deserves all they getJUSTICE at last! 2011-03-10 09:05

It's not GREAT that the PS3 units should be destroyed (recycled for sure)or does that mean the same thing?
Anyway...Its hard to comprehend how Ps3's already sold to people COULD be confiscated is beyond me!!!
It's not like they are a Health Hazard like exploding laptop batteries is it????????? :-*
So theres SONY claiming that Geohot & party are UPTO NO GOOD.....and then this new info hits the press that SONY are UPTO NO GOOD!!!!!What a Fukin'JOKE all round....I buy stuff and I get stuff at no extra cost....But recently I haven't bought anything BRAND NEW for years...It's pointless....USED is just as practical...or more so......Hell of a lot cheaper too!
I dearly hope that this affair really damages SONY beyond redemption...they deserve it.

No one can come into your house and take your PS3 that YOU paid for legally even if it was infringing on a patent. It doesn't work that way, the judicial system would not waste the time and money it would cost to go to everyone's house and take their PS3. even if they did so they would have to give you its cost and the cost of all the games you bought. Far FAR too much effort for them.

+3 # and why that happen so many years later...WindSlash 2011-03-10 10:34
Lucky-Goldstar (LG) was not aware of that right at the begginning???? During the Blu-Ray and HDDVD war.... it was SONY VS TOSHIBA.... but we never heard about LG owning the blu-ray... also by that time, most of LG player was HDDVD and not Blu-ray... Blu-Ray was (in the beginning) exclusive to SONY (for the first years of it's devellopment) after that came Samsung, etc, etc....

I'm pretty sure it's just a way for LG to take down sony and be the 1st in the industry....

For that case, I'm on the side of SONY.
'SONY, take down LG.... anyway there product suck... I work in a computer store, and LG product are crap. My friend work in a SuperMarket, and LG household appliance are crap also.
