The Last Guardian will "push PS3 to its limit" |
Listed in: News, Games Tags: Fumito Ueda, news, Team Ico, the last guardian
The PS3 is a very powerful piece of hardware and there have been many talks about the games that can take the system as far as it can go. According to creative director Fumito Ueda, The Last Guardian will do just that.
"With Ico, the way the AI was implemented was a challenge, and in SOTC, the way you could climb those bosses was another.," the Team Ico director told Edge in their latest issue. "In this game, I'm implementing both together while applying a huge brush-up that pushes the PS3 to its limit. This is quite a task, and we still have a lot of work to perfect it," he said.

... I want to create a character that is as perfect as possible. I mean, as natural as possible. I'd like players to feel it's really alive... I'm certainly trying to make that perfect living character.
This is a great platform that has a lot to offer, but it's not a question of machine power. It's more about how you get emotions out of a virtual character.
Looking at trailers for The Last Guardian, it is apparent that the game does look pretty darn good. Still, it's a work in progress and we'll see the results once the game comes out late this year.

PS3's very powerful? Then what'd do you say about a High-End PC?

consoles are made for games, devs know what hardware each console is going to have making it far.. far easier to optimise for max output. the pc is different, the hardware varies way to much so while the potential is there, its INFERIOR for games in the long run. if pc gamers would grow the fuck up and realise that then they would stfu about consoles holding gaming back but no they're (for the most part) to thick

PC in another universe or expaning power, consoles are different case =/
No matter how you try PC is stronger than consoles cuz u can make it so. So stop comparing already and leave consoles alone! Geez!

jk, Macs don't suck for gaming as much as they used to, thanks to steam. But they're still inferior to Windows machines in that aspect.

What's so great about consoles? For one, I don't have to upgrade the RAM in it every 20 minutes because the new leet GDDR72.89999 RAM just came out. I don't have to check "System Requirements" to make sure that the $2000 PC I purchased/built is going to play that new game I want.
Consoles make it easier for the people who: A) Can't afford beefy PCs
B) Don't know anything about computers
C) Want an entertainment system that fits on their TV stand that easily connects to any surround sound/home theater system.
As for "you can't even mod a game on a console".... Have you played Unreal Tournament 3? Obviously not. Besides, mods are user created and are 95% shit, a few gems peek out then are quickly scooped up by a studio and quality is upgraded to 92% shit but they want money for it now.

No, not as cheap as a console, but then again, that's why the PS3 can't push true 1920x1080 most of the time, much less the Xbox (or Wii).
B - That's a good reason. If you hate reading and being careful, of course. It might take you half a day to read enough to get started building a computer. Maybe.
C - Err... yeah. And you can't do that with a pc... why? Especially if all you want is console-level graphics.
Give me another moddable game on console? C'mon, tell me.
Right. Except maybe one other game, nothing is moddable. NOTHING. For people who buy the newest $60 game then move on to the next after a few weeks, fine.
For games like STALKER, Oblivion, Fallout3+NV, Homeworld, Star Ruler, Company of Heroes, and SupCom, mods breathe extra life into them once you've finished the main game. Just because you think they're shit that does NOT mean they shouldn't even be allowed or considered. I'm not sure where you're looking, but many mods for all those games are superb.
STALKER has LURK, Complete, Reloaded; Oblivion has OOO, Homeworld has things like Complex and Tactical Fleet Simulator, Star Ruler has FRB and Expanded Universe, Company of Heroes has Eastern Front, and SupCom has too many to name. I'm leaving a lot out, but with the quality of these mods and the fact they weren't "scooped up by a studio" and sold the pictures is a bit different from what you said, huh? And why rely on others? You could mod it yourself if you didn't trust others. And don't even get me started on the Source engine.
Oh wait, a few of those aren't even ON consoles. My bad.
That's why I go PC most of the time. I can game, I can browse, I can write, I can watch, I can encode, I can mod, I can upgrade, I can store.
I'm fine with consoles. I have little against them, and that's why I have a Wii and PS3 today (besides my SNES, Dreamcast, and PS2, but fuck paying for Xbox Live). The only thing I'm truly pissed at is that newer consoles don't allow you to use a keyboard and mouse (where appropriate) when it's so easy to add it in and the usb ports exist.

B- For the majority, this is true. Most people purchase pre-assembled computers which are comparable to plugging a monitor into a dog turd on the street.
C- Forgive my lack of clarity here, a console will fit into most, if not all, entertainment units and easily connects to home theater systems, unlike the PC tower, the bulk of which prevents it from being stored in such a manner. Connection to the home theater device may be just as simple but you're left with less options for dealing with wires/cords running every which way.
Any way you look at it, it is a moot point. PC will always rape console for everything, as it is the root of everything.
You named some good mods, but go to moddb and tell me how many acres of shit you have to trudge through to find the good ones.
As for "mod it yourself" I don't know about you, but I have a job already. Modding games doesn't fall onto any "To do" list in my home. A vast majority of gamers, especially now that it is sooooo cool to game (everyone and their 3 year old cousin plays trendy garbage like Black Ops) don't have the time or intelligence to handle such a task either. Modding can be left to someone who has 8 hours a day available to develop something they are not getting paid for.
I own a PC, PS3, PSP, iPhone 4, and Xbox. I game on all of them, except the Xbox. I only have it still because it won't sell on Kijiji. 2 discs for Dead Space 2? Eat my ass, with a side of FFXIII.

i really hate FPS on pc unless its co-op instead of versus, because i LOVE using a controller(i use my PS3 controller on my pc)
yes i know mouse is accurate and what not, but it's very uncomfortable, and not as fun, i enjoy shooters on console better because we all have the same disadvantage, plus it's not like you can do a 360 in a fraction of a second irl, and if you really need too, u can change the sensitivity, and i know lots of things in games aren't possible irl, but that's just ridiculous
but i still love my pc for some gaming, i been addicted to leauge of legends the past 3-4 months or so, before that it was TF2, and prior to that, crysis

Doesn't that mean the PC is perfect for it for you?

of course i've tried mouse and keyboard, didn't like it, so stuck with a controller

I for one am really looking forward to this game as well. ICO was bad ass and from what I played of Colossus I really enjoyed too. Team ICO really does make good on their promises a lot of times and has had a lot of time to work with the hardware on this game.
